It is mainly for no teak oil needing to be applied. Yea I would rather boat than maintain. It is not like a rubber mat no slip coating but it is not very slippery when wet either. So far nobody has fallen off while on the back. I saw it on a used boat we were look at and decided I needed to do that to the new one. I would highly suggest it to anyone as an alternative to the constant oiling if covering wood does not bother them.
