In a predicament with my Gel Coat

Last year I bought a 2004 24v. I bought with a bunc of cracks on the right side in the gelcoat. However on the invoice, I have written that the gel coat be repaired. This winter the boat was to be regelled. Just found out yesterday that the boat is beyond repair and no one can re gel it in Canada. They say it will have to be shipped back to Tige for repair. Not sure if Tige will do that or not. The dealer tells me that they will not leave me hangin. I trust them so I am not getting to excited about it and giving them some time to figure something out. I just need my boat in two months. What would you guys do? I thought gel was warrantied for 3 years?

gelcoat is warrantied for 1 year. I have two areas on my 24Ve that I am having repaired before I sell the boat. As for shipping it back to tige, that is going to cost some $'s and I don't think Tige will flip that bill. especially if it is out of warranty. But, good luck....

Do you have pictures of the problem?

          Good information.

My 2005 had just one year of warranty.

I have never heard of gel coat cracks being beyond repair...Worst case scenario is that they completely sand it off and apply new. There has to be someone in Canada that can do it. Are Svfara's made there?

Maybe they mean there were actual issues in the lamination???? If so, in comes Tige's lifetime hull warranty. But I doubt it... unfortunately for you.

And yes, Svfara's are made in Canda. Man I loveeeeee those boats... especially the SV2's layout. Tige should buy them out and steal everything about their interiors

Nope, I have gel coat issues on my 24Ve and Tige is not covering it.

The only reason I know is b/c I was getting some gelcoat stuff fixed on my 06' that was supposed to be under warranty as I reported it during warranty. The manager at the time kept putting it off. Now it was out of warranty and I knew it and was pretty upset. The new manager was like ... no man your still under the 3 year warranty. I had to explain to him that gelcoat was only for a year. He came back and said that he was sorry (luckily they took care of it on their own), I was correct, but he had been confused b/c the 08's had a 3 yr gelcoat warranty.

                    Good luck loud.

Gel-coat to a boat is like paint to a car. Sending the boat back to Tige is like sending my Chevy back to Detroit because the paint peeled. Any experienced and knowledgeable gel/fiberglass shop should be able to repair, unless, it runs deeper then the gel-coat and is structural. In this case, it was wise to not attemp a repair.

                      Good luck, keep us informed.

The problem is that the cracks are getting worse and they cover the whole right side of the boat. The left side still looks new. The gel is cracking in about 4" intervals. Not sure if there are screws in the rub rails that started it or not but it looks to precise just to be caused by nothing. I live in the middle of the country. To send it to a marina on either coast that would have experience with this, it would cost just as much to send it back to the manufacturer. SvFara is in BC which is just as far as Texas. Yes they are great boats and drive like race cars, but I prefer tige. I've been waiting for 10 years to get a Tige. Its unfortunate that I have to deal with this on my first tige boat. I only baught it because they said they can repair it. Now they can't. I will not have to pay out of my pocket as I have it in writing to be repaired.

I dont really have any good pictures of this however. Nothing I was very proud of so I just took them from afar. Most people dont even notice it but the cracks have started to buldge at the seem. The dealer has the boat right now. Or else I would take some.

Pictures would be great for us to see. Also, I would attempt to contact Tige directly to see what the would like to do. I know it's not under warranty but again, maybe the pictures would help them out to access the situation and privide some great words.

It sounds to me like something happened to that boat (like an accident). I don't think I've ever seen what you're describing.

I agree dog.. My gelcoat cracks reached 1.5-2 inches but hasn't grown since then. Maybe some further investigation might be in order....

                              Iceberg maybe??????
