I am in a job that requires to be in shape so I am fortunate to be able to work out on shift. There are some of the guys doing px90 with good results. There is also a program similar to it that guys use of the net called cross fit and I think it is free. There are alot of programs out there it is finding one you like and stick too.I like to do alot of different activities over riding a bike like dirtbiking, watersports, hockey, weights, golf, etc. It makes exercising fun but I still do the regular cardio gym stuff too. If I play hockey all winter as soon as I jump on a dirtbike I can get sore and find it hard until I adapt-different muscle groups.Just dont get frustrated,it takes time.

That guy is a pro bodybuilder and is ripped and indeed on roids, but that photo is an exageration by some editing program.
Keep in mind every piece of equipment that you see on tv, the person on tv demonstrating it did NOT get that ripped using it. You can't cheat muscle on (other than roids), there isn't an easy quick way. Takes time and hard work. Hit the gym and stick with the basics and cardio. In your case heavier on the cardio.

          Getting in Shape

First, and most important, as we get older is stretching!! Huge importance regardless of the shape you're in. You'll feel better and be far less prone to injury. Instead of sitting on your butt in front of the TV at night, move to the floor and stretch. Best thing you could do for your body!!

Second, cardio-get the heart rate up. Start slow like walking. You'd be surprised at how you can increase your heart rate by simply walking (not a slow Sunday walk but move with a purpose). Don’t try to go too gung-ho right off the bat, that is why most people fail. It is hard to get in shape so don’t get frustrated. It took years to slow and pudgy, it’ll take time to reverse it.

Third, calorie intake. Yes, take in less than you burn but keep in mind, as you become more active, you need more calories. If you increase your metabolism but maintain, or lessen, your current calorie intake, your body will go into to a self preservation mode and losing weight won't happen. The simplest thing you can do today is cut out the sugar-period! Stop drinking pop (or soda depending where you live) and start drinking water. If sugar, or high fructose corn syrup, is in the top half of the ingredient list on the box, keep moving.

You don’t need to spend money to become healthy and fit. You need to monitor what and how you eat ("You are what you eat" had never been more true the older we all get), start stretching and start a means to increase your metabolism. Pretty simple really.

Oh yeah, don’t make it impossible. In other words, it doesn’t all have to happen tomorrow with the exception of the attitude change. Start slow and progress from there. Don’t deprive yourself of the things you love, just do it smartly. As I said earlier, it took years to get where you’re at today, it’ll take time to make the change.

SnB - Now you're a couple more weeks into the program...how's it going? I am a week and a half into and definitely feeling better.

Stick to it and you'll get good results. It's take some dedication in the beginning. I've been back at it for 1.5 yrs, after taking a 7 yr hiatus, now I'm addicted and can't get enough. I've gone from 167 lbs to 185 as of today, and it ain't fat. I'm a bit stronger than I was when I was in my twenties, but I think that's because I don't party til 3 in the morning any more.

I am feeling a lot better. I notice that each week I can do more, my balance is better and my waste size is getting a little smaller. I havent lost any weight though, but as long as I am replacing fat with muscle. I am really liking the yoga and stretching.

I like all the exercises but I hope I get better at the yoga. I never thought of yoga as being anything but easy and relaxing, oops was I ever wrong. So far I would recommend P90X.

Do you need to buy any extra equipment besides the videos?

I would buy the pull up bar. You'll need weights for quite a few of the moves. Right now we just use the bands, which work alright, but I am looking for some of the adjustable dumbells like the BowFlex Selectech.

As far as supplements, I am just using protein powder. SnB - did you buy the recovery mix?

Does the bands come with it?

There's some sort of package deal that comes with a band or two. We just went to Big 5 Sporting Goods and found the bands for a good deal.
