Is it true that 150 plus people have been laid off at the factory in Abilene? I was told that today while at Lake Brownwood for the day. Just wondering and if so is there something going on?

Wow that would suck if it is true. It means the economy has caught up with Tige and they probably have excess inventory from 2007 and 2008 build up. If you look at some of the dealers web sites you can still see 2007 inventory and a bit of 2008 inventory.

I thought I got a good price on my 07 20V as a fall/winter closeout last November. I bet if I went for the same boat now I could save at least $5k. Kind of sucks for Tige employees and end of season buyers.

Where I work we have had three layoffs at 10% of staff 3 times in last year or so. Unfortunately the staff that was layed off did not see it coming. The engineering sector here is pretty good still so the staff I had to let go have rebounded well thank goodness.

Tige Layoff Confirmed. Sorry About the long Post.
A sluggish economy has taken its toll on local manufacturer Tigé Boats, which announced this week it would lay off about 30 percent of its work force citing low sales nationwide.
Chief Executive Officer Charlie Pigeon said Thursday that the company laid off 49 of its manufacturing workers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
During a time when many Americans are fretting over gasoline, Pigeon said that thoughts of new boats are not occupying the minds of boaters in its traditional sales base.
"I've kept our people as long as we can," Pigeon said. "I had to make an adjustment in our work force."
Tigé's traditionally strong sales regions -- Arizona, California, Nevada, Florida and Michigan -- have slumped lately, while showrooms in Texas, especially Houston, are slated to set new records for the year. Because so many dealerships have a back stock of boats, the manufacturer has cut production 30 percent in recent months, Pigeon said

This is too bad, but not surprising. Unfortunately, Tige is not the only company going through this, probably not even the only boat manufacturer!
Sad part is many of us are feeling the squeeze on two sides.......work and home
