6.0, 385hp engine, anyone got one?

I was interested in the 6.0L upgrade. I looked at it at the dealership and it was quite interesting. Looked like a closed loop cooling system. The dealer had a GM Vortec, not PCM.

    Anyone have experience either?

BTW, this would be in a 24V, but opinions on 22V would also be helpful.

I have the Marine Power 6.0 in my 24, not sure if your looking at that one as well, but if you have any questions, feel free to send them my way and I'll help the best I can. The MP does have a closed cooling system but it uses fresh water to cool the heat exchanger.

I've got the 6.0 in my truck if that counts...it's nice. I have the 5.7 black scorpion in my boat and love it. You will never regret getting a larger engine in a tow boat. Less strain means less problems and less fuel consumption.

        blr,

Is your engine silver? If so, that's the one I'm thinkin of with the heat exchanger.

How do you like it?? Top speed, holeshot, etc.

I believe it is silver, I know the heat exchanger and most of the top of the engine is silver. I love the engine. The only thing I would trade it for is if Tige comes out with an 8.1 option. If your looking for the best hole shot and speed, this is your engine, but you may have o play withj prop variables. top end is around 40 at lake powell. My buddy has and x-star with the norstar enigine (4 feet shorter and over 1500lbs lighter) and we were equal on the top end. They did change the Thermostat from the first ones shipping to get to a lower operating temp, but that us the only change I know of. Hope that helps.

            8.1 = lots of gas!

            Thanks for your input.

I can only imagine what the 6.0 does. I love my normal 5.7. with 315hp.

I have 1994 Tige with 8.1. I have to say it is kind of nice to have 395HPs with 375lbs of touqe. Good for streaching out your arms.. It does suck down the gas.

I've got the 5.7 too and it sips gas, sounds awsum,, and has plenty of power.
                        Runs like teenagers in heat.

                        Love it.

The bigger motors will give you no more speed, just swallow more fuel.

The only reason Tige' offers it, in my humble opinion, is because everyone else does.

But having said that, and the hyppocrite that I am,, I'll probably order one on my next Tige'.

thats not completely true. you may actually get 1 or 2 mph faster, but thats not why Tigé offers it. The reason for going with bigger engines in towboats is acceleration. Try throwing 2000lbs of ballast in a 22v and see if you cant use a bigger engine!

That being said, the two 6.0L options are PCM and Marine Power. The easiest way you can tell them apart is by the badging- the PCM has a red flame arrestor cover that has its "ZR6" model number. The Marine power is the silver one that says "GM Vortec."

                            six liter

i bought the 24 v with the 6 liter vortec, but its rated at 375 horsepower.... the engine is nicer than the 5.7 that i had in my previous boat,,,, the motor starts first time every time,,, the only thing is that with the v drive the boat is not as fast as my previous boat with the 5.7 and inboard outboard,,, but i knew that going in,,, my kids are having a wonderful time with this boat, wakesurfing, boarding and body surfing,,, its a lot of fun

Thats because it is fuel injected.
