    Why is the MPG on the RZ2 So High?

    There was a thread about the Z1 and the bad gas mileage reported on the boattest.com. I didn't want to hijack the Z1 thread so here's one for the RZ2

    Some of us notice that the RZ2 also got a bad report on the BoatTest results, I was wondering if anyone has any information that the test of the RZ2 also has an inaccurate report.

      The 22Ve is planed out at 3500rpm and 32 mph, the RZ is pushing water at 3000 rpm and 25 mph.

      Ve - 340hp
      RZ - 360hp

      Prop = ?

      I don't these boats are running the same props doesn't look like an apple to apples comp.

        The best thing to do is just measure it your self.

          I agree that this is not a complete apples to apples comparison. However, the chart shows that at 3000 rpm the RZ2 uses almost twice as much fuel.
          Is this right? Can there truly be enough difference in the props to cause that much seperation in fuel economy between two somewhat similar boats?

            Not sure why I am so concerned with this now. Maybe should have thought about it before buying the RZ.

              Both boats are different in weight by 200 lbs appx. If the RZ2 had the same engine I would think that the values would be a lot closer.

                Tests may be funny

                I think it really depends on how they test the boat. Go look at the video of the Z1 test - the boat is out of the water at times.

                Automakers/EPA use dynos - don't think there is the equivalent for boats.

                Hey, with all the concern about gas mileage, isn't there a way to reprogram the microcontroller for the engine? Haven't seen that option for boats yet.

                  There are ways, but keep in mind, that our boats are generally tuned up pretty hot as it is (which typically also gives better mileage).

                  Thing is, most gas motors don't really see much from tunes, despite the marketing that some companies would have you believe. There are improvements to be had... just don't be expecting the 2-3 GPH. Not quite like diesels.

                    Seems you can't compare the 340 to the 360. I would expect the 360 to get worse mileage with the same boat.
