Why is the MPG for the Z1 so low?

I was looking at the test results for the Z1, and noticed that the MPG seamed low.
I looked up the old results for the 20V and it has the MPG at more the double that of the Z1, also the top speed is higher on the 20V.

So does that mean that there is a lot more drag on the new hull?

Ouch. If those #'s are correct that is going to be an expensive 21 footer to operate.

Wasn't it tested on a choppy day? That would surely require more gas.

Not sure if this is 100% true or not but when I drove the Z1 on the dealer day back in OCT. My dealer told me that the hull is a "water displacing design" that is different then any other Tige hull, which he explained to be similar to other tow boats. He said to make sure I was alert to where I had the Taps settings when going faster then towing speeds as the drag will be very high.

My dealer is pretty up and up on the design of the new stuff, so to me it makes sense to why the milage is what it is.

The wake on the Z1 is really nice and the hull design is a little different is what I have heard. It actually makes a better wake then the 24Ve if you compare the boats with no ballast and only taps. I think the Z has a little more rocker in it.

Can you take some pictures of the wake for wakeboard and surfing.

I've being dying to see what it looks like.

Also I dont think you are comparing apples-to-apples here...
Your docs show the 20v test w/340hp and the Z1 test w/320hp (granted you would think less hp better gas mileage)
Also as timmy stated I dont think the z1 test was on smooth water etc....

For us to truly know they need to run identical engines and on the same day/water conditions.

That is a lot of fuel to consume in an hour. Both engines are 350ci and there should only be a slight difference if any between them. I get about 6 to 7 GPH on a 2005, 340hp 24V. Hope the hull is not making that big of a difference.

I think there is something wrong with the fuel consumption and acceleration numbers of that test.

I had a 2005 22V and the gas consumption was a lot better than my RZ2. The new MP engine has more power but it does use more gas.

I even took my boat to the shop to get it tuned, but they said that the new engine does use more gas and my boat was already tuned correctly. I notice a big difference at the pump between the 2 boats.

I bet the original tests would get a different result if they boats (24Ve, 22Ve,...) are tested again with the new engine. I beleive what is wrong is the old tests and not the new tests.
