Let's do it. I still need to de-winterize my boat.

I went to check on mine the other day and the whole storage unit smelled like gas. I lifted the edge of the cover and the gas smell was pretty strong in the boat. Now I'm really nervous. Is that normal? I can't imagine what could be leaking--gas does not freeze. I filled the tank up before I put her away for the winter.
I hope it's just fumes and nothing more...I have way too many other projects to deal with a fuel leak or worse.

That is definitely not normal. On my boat, there's a fuel cooler that cools the fuel by making it run outside of the water intake line. It's a copper fitting. Is it possible that you have one of these and it didn't get drained?

The only other thing I can think of is that you had water in your gas line and it froze. Maybe a fuel seperator?

Best to be on the safe side, but i'll bet the fumes are from the full tank being trapped under the cover while stored. Is it stored inside, or have you had a couple of warm days there recently?

Yup gonna oncover mine this weekend and get ready. Got a few goodies to add and some basic maintenance and then we're good to go. Probably take it out in a few weeks just for fun. It's hovering around 70+ now but the water is fraking cold!

Did you fill the tank "really" full? Could just be the warming/cooling has caused some fuel to vent out. Get that cover off....carefully. you want to make sure there is no static when you remove the cover.

That would be bad huh!? I'd be in orbit with the odor/fumes as bad as they are.

Good tip, thanks!! I never even thought about static.
