6.0L New ECM Flash Worth it?

Not to be pinching pennies but is it worth it to pay for a shop hour to flash the ECM? Am I going to notice anything?

Were you having problems w/ the 6.0L?... is that why?

That's really my question. I have no idea what it is supposed to do. All I've heard is it is supposed to bring early 6.0Lers up to the current. Fix some hesitation and some other things. I'm honestly not sure if I've noticed it. There's been a few hard starts but nothing else really.

Flashing is pretty much the first step in any repair process on todays Electronic Controlled Engines. You would be surprised. Sometimes you notice a big difference like on my 2000 GMC 1500. The idol was way smoother. And other times you do not notice anything but over a long term you will. It can contribute to the wear factor in the engine in many different ways. Just like your windows PC needs to be formated and reconfigured every now then, your ECM on your car and boat need to be cleaned up and re flashed every now and then.

If they have an update I would do it. But be carefull to make sure it is a Marine flash not an automotive flash. Marine programing is different than automotive and you will de-tune you boat in 5 minutes if they put the incorrect flash in.

I had my 6.0 flashed by Marine Power at least 5 times. My motor never worked 100% right. I would suggest upgrading the software / mapping when ever it's available. It made a difference in my stalling issues.

I know there's a few of you guys having trouble w/ your 6.0L, w/o successful help from MP. You guys MIGHT try and contact PPE at http://www.pacificp.com/ and see if they have a marine tune for that motor. You'd have to buy the ECM port from them and the tuner.... but I'm sure they can help you out. Dan would be the guy you want to talk to.

They don't just do Diesel's. I know for sure they have some stuff for the 5.7L stock and supercharged motors... I'd place a bet they have stuff for the 6.0L. And if not.... you've only wasted a few mins on the phone. PPE is known for their stuff JUST WORKING w/o problems. Couldn't hurt at least.

I can most definitely relate this to a computer. The BIOS' need flashing to update them to prevent certain things from happening.

Take this idea to the ECM and flashing that computer would be the best thing to do IMO.
