    Fuel Tank Construction

Does anyone know what our fuel tanks are constructed of? Read an article today explaining how ethanol can begin to eat away at fiberglass fuel tanks...hoping we have aluminum, as more stations around here are blending ethanol into their regular grade gas.

My '99 has an aluminum tank. It holds 40 gals.

Your asking that question tells us you don't do any of your own maintanence chores by yourself! Your dealer must love you
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Thanks for all the replies! Fortunately, Jason (smart@ss ), it's an '07, so I haven't had to have it to the dealer, who is 3 hrs away. Have an independent guy who did my 20 hr service to keep it under warranty. I did just find that there are NO backing plates or nuts on my rear tower bolts!!! Not in the bilge either, so must not have been installed at the factory!

                    CHP, PM'ed you.

Another point about the ethanol...the article (Boat US mag) states that the ethanol helps break up varnish or gunk in your tank, so watch your fuel filters better too.

The rear tower bolts dont necessarly need backing plates, IMO. the stress from the back supports pushes down into the fiberglass, not like the front that pulls up. But it is nice to have that security there

CP3 is correct about the load, but any thing bolted to fiberglass should have something to distribute the load.

Now, to address the question. Tige glasses in 1/4 thick plate into the gunwale. The rear tower bolt hole is drilled and then threaded. The bolt threads through the glassed in plate, so from the backside, it looks like it's missing the nut.

Your tower is good to go, have your service guy torque them to about 22ftlb's.
