need help with 12v to 120v

i just got a winch for my dock that has 12v hook ups. I need help with a way to plug it in to the 120v outlets on my dock. Any ideas or suggestions will help. I was thinking i could hook it up to a battery and solar panel so i wouldn't have to worry about it but that is a little more then i wanted to spend.

    any ideas??

What you want to look for is a 120vac to 12vdc inverter. at a quick glance there are some but they are not cheap. You may just want to put a battery in an enclosuree with a low cost battery charger with auto shut off. Be a heck of a lot less expensive.

Inverters convert DC (12V car battery) power to AC (120V wall outlet) power. You just need a simple 12V power supply. A 10amp 12V power supply should cost around $180. It may be cheaper to buy a battery and a trickle charger.
If it is an option you could also return the DC winch and get an AC winch.

I thought I just saw an AC to DC inverter on the Web but I think we both agree a battery and low cost charger is cheaper way to go

The term inverter is sometimes used loosly.
                          Text book wise -
                          DC to AC = inverter
                          AC to DC = rectifier

... see mom and dad, that $40K Electrical Engineering degree wasn't a complete waste.
