On my ski team boat , which runs a wide spectrum of power bands up and down due to barefooting and other large loads I continually burn 3gph , all of my competitors brands CC with the same power plant burns 8 to 9 gph, doing the same pulls , and they have issues in tournament with the cooling system and premature impellar failure.

Wow, those are some pretty good numbers. Let's say if you use your boat heavily (between 100 and 200 hours), you'll save between $1500-$3000 a year (assuming gas at current $3 per gallon) over the competition.

I've always assumed I was running between 5-6 GPH with my Mercruiser 315 MPI, but I never payed close attention. I don't have a fuel flow meter.

BTW, speaking of fuel filters, it seems like the Faria Fuel Manager is a pretty easy DIY install. Is there a trick to making it work once you get it installed (specifically, do I need to prime my fuel line again or will it automatically do this for me)?

The fuel flow will only drain the line near where you add it once you cut the line. I wouldn't think any priming would be necessary.

I love mine. Well worth the money.

Was it hard to install?

No. I added a small inline filter, the sending unit, and that took all of 10 minutes. The electrical under the dash was easy as well.

In the last 20 years I have only seen one engine throw a rod and it was purely old age and abuse, normally we will see 2000 hrs and up with good maintenance and then you might see some beginings of blowby. I appoligize if you thought I was picking on PCM , I was only trying to say that they burned some bridges with GM when they stayed with Ford , while everyone in the marine industry switched to GM in the early 90s. All the 60ls are built by GM and are the same except marinazation and the calibrations , GM has far more experinece with their motor then any after market company. GM does more testing with Marine Power then the other companys, so that gives them an edge. I hope that clarifies my comment no offense was intended.

No offense was ever taken. In this world there is no one person that knows everything. I am alway looking to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of things I am talking about that is why I asked you about the PCM as it is obvious you have way more experience with those engines than I do.

You have what seems to be a great understanding of these things and I am sure there is a lot for me to learn so I hope you don't mind me bouncing back and forth to learn and understand any issues talked about on this board.

I like you never mean to offend or upset anyone. I just try to help out with my knowledge by sharing and by gaining a better understanding through questions.

When needed I am more than willing to be corrected as that helps to make me and hopefully others reading the information that much better at what we do.

I work in the Automotive industry training technicians and I think I learn more from them in a class than I teach them. All my knowledge and experience is a small amount compared to a group of guys equal to my knowledge.

One thing I like about this sight is, its a very good bunch of people on here who like to share anything which will help each other. I have been to the other sights CC in particular where either I or one of my staff has tryed to help out with a problem with their engine and they give us a hard time like we are picking on their product. We are big into basic service at our shop and todays power plants will go the distance , without a major problem. Our competitors in are area are still stuck in the past where they change cap, rotors, wires and plugs almost every season , sorry if I get off on a tangent.

I looked at that one and it will work, but I ended up getting one that cost a little more so it would match my other instruments. Lowrance is like the Sony of marine instruments. They make and own everything.
