My wife's family has a time share at Lake Powell on the week of the 4th of July.

I love the time we spend at Lake Powell. On the top of my list of pros of a owning a houseboat at Lake Powell is Family time. We are there for a entire week talking and having fun as a family, the kids have no TV and nothing else to do but talk and have fun together.

The top of the list of Cons will be the cost. When you ad up the time share price, yearly maintenance, gas, etc. It does cost a little. But definably worth it for as much fun as our family have.

Are you looking to buy a whole boat or a weekly timeshare deal?

From what I've seen you can rent one for a week for a reasonable price. Why bother with the ownership hassles?
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

When I checked into renting one it was 2,700 for a weekend and almost $4,000 for a 5 day week. That is out of sight. Then you have to add in Gas, Food, and all the other stuff to keep the wifes happy. I say rent a Hotel.

Here is another thread on Lake Powell http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...ht=Lake+Powell
I have owned outright, done time share and rented. Owning was great you are at the lake anytime you want and spend a lot of time there. You know how friends and family are, they will use and abuse your stuff any time they can. Time share is good also, you know when and that you will be going every year and it is less than renting if you are going to go on an anual trip. Renting is what one group I go with does and have been doing for 13 years. The group changes periodically and they just haven't set it to where any one person in charge, it rotates every year. All of these different options are great because as we all know time on the lake with family and friends is better than time any where else. I also do a trip every year that is to Page and stay at the Courtyard there. Great way to go with no planning needed. Eat out, maid service and hot tub at the end of a day on the lake. I was talking of and almost ready to buy a house boat last fall and then my better half found an investment property in Hawaii, our condo will be finished in 2011. She won and it will appreciate vs what a house boat will do. I love Lake Powell and don't think you can spend to much time there. So what ever you do to get you there is a good decision. Good luck.

I would love to buy a condo in Hawaii. I know my wife would go for that if I presented that option to her. What island did you buy on?

Kauai is what Maui was 20 years ago.

looking for a share. for what it cost to rent I can own a share with annuals from $750 to 2000. Renting for a week in the high season is $5000 to 12000. I have always done the hotel thing but its a pain to get a slip or pull the boat out every night. Thanks for the input. I would buy outright but slip and mooring fees are a killer.

Any takers on a tige owners boat?

and new "timeshares" you have to pay ALOT more due to the fact they pull the monster boat out of the water every week as there is no more slips for the new houseboats now this is at Bullfrog not sure at the other marinas.
It is quite an expensive endevor anymore...good luck!
