    Hour meter gauge reading

How does the hour meter on the faria gauge work on an 04' 22V, or any Tige for that matter? It gives an engine hour readout, but where does it pull it from? And if the battery goes dead on your boat will it reset? I cannot imagine it would or tons of boat owners would have bad hour calculation on their boats.

Reason I ask, a friend of mine is looking at an 04' 22V and the seller checked his hours on the gauge at the dash it says 3 hrs. All three of us know that is not correct and neither my friend or I are close enough to check the boat out in person. Apparently the owner has had the battery go dead on his boat multiple times. The seller is a friend of ours, he is not playing games, he just does not know the boat very well. And I guess I don't either, I have the same boat (literally, the exact same color and year boat, funny) and I am not sure what would cause the hour meter to have what we think it a false reading. Or maybe it is a misinterpretation/user error issue. Thoughts?

I had an 04 and right after I bought it my hour meter reset also for no apparent reason. I found out from my dealer there is also an hour meter in the Perfect Pass if I remember right. I might be wrong. Also if a dealer can hook the boat up to a computer the engine will have the most accurate hour reading.

I've seen people pull the power lead off from the back of hour meters on motorhomes. I can't imagine it would be that difficult to do the same thing with a boat.

If you really want/need to know have it checked on a diagnostic machine from the engine computer and charge back the cost to the seller. If he wants to sell he'll pay a few bucks.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. He does not have perfect pass, so that is not an option. We do know that the hours are really low, the owner did not use the boat often. In fact, he did not even put it in the water last year, which is a concern in itself.

The hours question was more to help establish fair market value for the boat than anything else so it is a fair sale. I am going to suggest that the boat is taken into the dealer for an annual service if not done this year and maybe an impeller, again it not replaced recently and then they can also get the hours checked.

Austinsouthside, I'd have your friend talk to the Ski Dock. Chances are they know the boat.

I have a backup hour meter on the PerfectPass, but it's only registered the hours since I got it installed almost 3 years ago.

What is funny is that the owner actually bought the boat at Ski Dock, which I just learned yesterday, but he lives in Dallas and the guy that wants to buy it lives in Houston. We got all the Texas cities covered! Hopefully the owner has been taking it into a Tige dealer in Dallas for regular service. We will find that out along with more info on the boat before my other friend buys it.

Texas Tige in Houston is a good place for him to go as well.

For a 20 year old boat, I'd think the hours displayed would be a small player in establishing the market value, compared to physical condition, wear and tear, etc.
