    Refinishing Monster Tower Wakeboard racks

Hi, I have a pair of Monster Tower Wakeboard racks which after a couple of seasons don't look so hot any more. There are peeled spots in the chrome. I was thnking of having them powder coated. Has anyone done these with their racks before and did it work well? Any thoughts/advice on this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

I have the same problem. I spoke with Monster about it and they said I should take pictures and send them in. I'll let you know how that goes.

I had the same issue with the speaker cans and they just sent me brand new ones.

I had chrome peeling off my monster racks and they sent me new ones, I went with the billet this time to not have a repeat, plus chrome never holds up in saltwater...where I boat.

MNTSMITH is right, I vote for plain aluminum. It is tough to get a plating shop to do a really good job chrome plating, there are good ways to do it (MIL SPEC style) but with the under plating and so forth required it is too much $$ for the average boat part. I had another brand of racks that the plating failed right away and they warrantied them and 2nd time around I went with plain aluminum and they hold up way better, even in the salt, and they are like 5 yrs old. Powder coating would be OK and cool cause you could mess with color but the downside if it get chipped (i.e. a rock while towing) the plating fails in that region very quickly.

sand the chrome off and wetsand and polisah them, it'll look fine and no more chipping. if your interested I'll give you the steps to make it easy. This will be the chapest route as well. It will be the most work though.

Thank you all for your responses. Dogbert, thanks for the pics and good luck with Monster Tower. I actually bought mine used so not sure I can go back to Monster for possible replacement. I will give it a try, though, as it would be the best solution. Ladiesman, thanks for your offer to provide instructions for sanding and polishing. I will take you up on that if Monster won't replace.

I sent them the pictures today. My boat's all torn apart so I'm not in a huge rush.

This is the reason i have black powdercoated racks, no worries! Sanding off chrome is a lot harder than it sounds, believe me! You'll be there next season doing it still!

I will agree with Dom that their service is top notch. The top section on my tower had a weld crack. I wasn't the original owner and it was out of warranty, but they sent me a new one very quickly.
