This is not our local show, which opens in 8 days, but is a smaller show about an hour and a half away. We know the dealer real well, so we drove down to say "hi".
This is Clemson and USC land so the orange/white and blk/red boats do well. They had a Z1, 22Ve, 24Ve, RZ2, 20i, and 20V on display.
Z1 notable features: classic shape with the hard edges of the RZ. Cup holders in the transom > $46k, The only thing this boat was missing was ballast, which for a budget minded boater looking for the best built boat with out bell & whistles, but by no means a striped down entry level loss leader. This boat is for real
Nothing really new on the others except cup holders in the RZ2 transom borrowed from the RZ4
The others We spent a few hours cruising the show, looking at the other towboats, doing a little recon. Most everybody was there. We looked at CC, Bu , Supra, MC Centuriun, Moomba. The first 3 we stopped at, CC, Supra, and Centuriun, we were completely ignored I spent at leat 15 minutes on each boat without 1 single sales person even acknowledging we were there. Next was Bu.......the only person to speak was the Bu Rep. He recognized my from the Raleigh show last year, but couldn't remember, so he said hello, hoping I was a Bu owner. Then Moomba and finally MC.
CC: Over priced, shallow. Towers are very low, especially on the 210/211, I hit my head on the speakers and I'm not a tall dude Their revolutionary "Hydro-Gate" is an OPTION. Factory base Ballast = 900#'s and BALLAST IS OPTION ON ALL CC BOATS PER 08 BROCHURE. Ballast tanks take up MOST of the rear storage. They look built in but are juts covered with carpet. No one spoke to us.
Supra: IMO, the only boat close in price, for size and option, to a Tige. I like the fixed bimini/cargo idea, but it was too low, again I hit my head. Because of the bimini and belly sac storage, you have to crawl up to the bow. This is a no-no for us, moving about a boat should not be like climbing on playground equipment. WAKE PLATE = OPTION. Not sure about other features as there were no brochure out at all. No one spoke to us.
Centuriun: No usable storage at all on these boats. No storage under driver's console, or under cabin seats. Had to step up on a seat to get to the bow. If bimini was up, you would be crawling. If this dealer sells 1 single boat, it would be a miracle, there ENZO was littered with trash around the trailer/under swim platform. Didn't know the ENZO used hard plastic tanks and they take up better then half the rear storage, which is REAL narrow to start with. No one spoke to us.
Bu: This was the only boat that the wife kinda liked, and the first place we were greeted. The Illusion tower is cool, but the mirror has to be on the windshield. I've seen a tower fixed mirror, but the Rep said it's not from Illusion so not offered for a Bu. WEDGE = manual or power is an OPTION.
Moomba: Nothing more then an entry level Supra. This was the only dealer that spoke to us, but only after the guy ignored us while we boarded and the wife asked him a question. She asked how much ballast it came with, and would it be enough to surf..............and no one new the answer. The guy said it had 3 sacs and used his hands to show us how big they were. The third person thought it held about 200 gallons. It's not a fuel tank or something, I'm a boarder, I need to know weight He asked what we had know, so I told him a 4Winns. It went right over his head that we were surfing behind an I/O. The wife said the boat seemed a little shallow and he said it was the deepest out there, so she asked "how's it ride.......THE BEST OUT THERE he says. "how does it compare to the Tige" and it was ON. He said it cam with a 3yr engine warranty and no one else was even close..........wrong, MP = 3yrs. Theirs turns out to be 3yrs factory w/4th yr covered by outside source and is limited. It's basically an extended policy with deductible.
MC: all I can say is bring the KY. Way to much "909/flat biller" for us.
None of these boats came close to the seating comfort of a Tige.
