I always have a hat on unless I am on a board or ski. Then I always put a hat back on when I get in the boat. The same thing with the shirt. In the summer I try to leave the shirt on since it dries out fast in the heat. I took my shirt of when I was younger at the beach for two hours and my back was so fried I have a real hard time taking my shirt of when I am out side now. Besides that I am in no shape to be take my shirt off.

She was most concerned that the dog would no longer pay attention to her, because it was following him around. This lesion is a basal cell carcinoma, and is what can happen if left unchecked. I just can't imagine looking like that dude and not undergoing a procedure for it. That is one nasty way to go.

I'm 55 and had a small open sore under my right eye that wouldn't heal. After a few weeks it kept getting larger and my doctor sent me to a dermatologist. It was basil cell cancer. The spot was about the size of a pencil eraser, but they cut out a patch of skin about the size of a quarter. Since the 70's I've always worn a hat, used lotion, stayed under the bimini, etc. and haven't had a sunburn since then. When I was 11-13 my father was in the Air Force and we spent 3 years in Hawaii. I got sunburned a number of times. The doc said that was probably when it started. It's cumulative. Just like loud sounds on the hearing.

Glad you caught it on time. Livinng in florida and spending lots of time out in the field on the water I have become friends with 45-70 spf sunscreen, longsleeves, and full brim hats.
My coworker that has dipped since he was about 15...now 49, was just diagnosed with gum cancer. I guess it has spread into some of his muscular tissue, affecting his facial expressions. Enough to make me never take it up.

Wow - Thanks for sharing... I don't usually wear sunscreen but this whole post has scared me into it... AZ is no place to take chances with the sun...
It's funny because we just found out that my Aunt just had something removed from her right side that turned out to be skin cancer. She said it was like a zit that wouldn't go away so she finally sought medical attention. So this is a wake up for me...
I'm with Tessa though, it sucks to get burned up and spend the next couple days miserable...http://www.linkedin.com/in/zachgarcia

Ok, I'm gonna say it. Not to be the a-hole in the group but because everyone was thinking it....
If he let it get that bad before he went to a Dr. it's probably better he kicked before he had a chance to shallow the gene pool any further. Come on. WTF are you thinking? Maybe he just never noticed he had an extra brain growing on his face? Dumb.
Thanks for sharing Tall. Also, thank goodness Greg is much, much brighter than your pt!Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Thanks for all you support guys. Good news at the Doc says that he got all of the cancer.
It's been four days now, and my face is still a bit swollen, and hurts. It feels kinda like a bad sinus. It's a pain from the inside out, if that makes any sence.
I know that a little pain now is nothing to what it could have been if I let it go.
See you all for now."Just Surf Damn it"

Glad all is better, I know what you are going through. I had a small spot on my nose removed about 2 yrs ago. Still have a small indention, doc says it may never "fill in". I am fair skinned and have been real religious about sunscreen my hole adult life. I wear a ball cap at least or a wide brimmed hat more often. I even keep a small sunscreen in the convertible.
