    Becareful of the sun !

    Hey everybody;
    I'm posting this because I don't want this to happen to any of you. We are all here on Tige Owners because of one reason. We all enjoy the water and the sun, and the sun can be a great feeling, but also our worst enemy.
    Let me start by saying I'm 48 years old, and of Lebanese decent. I tan very easily, and never burn. Last month I had a small bump on my ever balding head that just would not go away, so i went to the dermatologist to have it checked out. He said it was nothing to be concerned about, but that spot on the side of your nose may be something. He did a biopsy, and found it to be a cancerous Basil Cell. Granted a Basil Cell is the least aggressive form of skin cancer, but left untreated can cause plenty of problems. I was scheduled to have the area treated, and was expecting only two stitches (per the Doc). Well after he was inside, he found that the cancer was spread out like an upside down mushroom. My two stitch procedure turned into 9 sutchers to close the canyon that was created. Good thing I have plenty of nose to work with.
    Anyway, my point is that summer is coming quickly, and I don't want anyone to go through this un neccesarily. Stay covered, or at least wear your sun screen! Sorry for the blurred pic.

    Good advice. We've all started using SPF 45 along with hats and rash guards whenever possible. Of course, the bimini is always used.

      Thanks for sharing. I never wear sunscreen. I'll probly start.
      Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

          Glad to hear that they caught it before it spread too far. That must have hurt after the surgery.

                I have got a really, really gross picture of a guy who let his Basal cell grow for about 10 years...If you guys beg and plead I will let you in on the whole story.

                Good advice on the sunscreen. Use at least SPF 30. Don't let some miseducated retard tell you less is OK. I like the SPF 45 best.
                Be excellent to one another.

                    Had one a couple of years ago, and started wearing stronger sun screen and a wide brim hat. Don't want to go through that again, I thought the doc was going to make another nostril. We always keep SPF 30 on the boat and even make the guests slather up. Don't want the day cut short from someone whining about sunburn. Sunglasses should be mandatory as well.

                      ALWAYS use sunscreen! A buddy (who thinks he's impervious to all maladies) never uses it and now consequently has these large brown growthes all over his back. Of course he's one of those sun worshipping types but has he seen a doc, nope! But he'll sure as not slather on the SPF8 oil when out, dumb. We use SPF45-50 for babies as it's better for the skin.

                        What Greg's nose was headed for...You asked for it

                        Here is the story:

                        A man once noticed a lesion growing on the side of his head. After the lesion grew to an enormous size, small chunks began to fall off onto the floor. Before long, the couple's dog began following him around, hoping to eat the chunks of the lesion as they fell off. He finally sought medical attention at the urging of his wife. She was most concerned that the dog would no longer pay attention to her, because it was following him around. This lesion is a basal cell carcinoma, and is what can happen if left unchecked. He died as a result of the basal cell carcinoma.

                        Be excellent to one another.

                            I don't want to preach...but it would be OK if you got your skin or throat cancer and then just collapsed dead. The problem is that it does not happen that way. More than likely after years of suffering and thousands upon thousands of dollars of unsuccessful treatment, then you die. Try to quit the chewing tobacco now, it does not get any easier. Wear sunscreen. There is very good proof that your lifetime sun exposure increases your odds of skin cancer. It will be cheaper than the 'cure' down the road.
