I work for a municipality here in the Northwest and am in a union. Our COLA for 08 is a meager 3.3%. I am a bit jealous of you guys pulling 13% raises but then again I don't have to worry about downsizing or outsourcing and like knowing I will work for the same stable entity 20 years from now. I also accrue 5 weeks of vacation and 120 hours of sick time each and every year so I figure that into my incentives. I wouldn't trade my fun, stress free job for a crappy stressful job that paid three times what I make.

This will occur year over year until we reach a devaluation period. So 10 years from now with inflation, your income is lets say 200k, that means over ten years it will take 100% more money to have the same purchasing power, but your loan is fixed at 50k with a fixed rate. That means your 50k is 100% cheaper than when your borrowed it. Same holds true for home loans, student loans....basically anything with a fixed interest rate.
FYI
I'm not an economist or anything, this is just how I see it. I may be wrong about this......
The best solution I have is sell my shares to get out of those locks and resign from the management team and let some one else get the negative rewards (hell not even worth). Thank god we are a dual income family and that I take in computer side jobs @$75.00 an hour.

There are soooo many illegals here in the Chicago/Milwaukee area!!
I don't agree w/ breaking the rules to get here....but I can understand the motivation.
I know lots of them and the vast majority are VERY hard working. Sure, you have the losers like every other subculture, but overall they work hard. Furthermore, the idea they don't pay taxes is a misconception. They DO pay taxes like everybody else--they just don't pay taxes to the name they were born with like we do. They have fake SSN and names for the most part. How they don't get caught is beyond me, I have NO clue. They spend a lot of money in the community and they contribute to our economical well being in a myriad of ways. Property taxes, sales taxes, fuel taxes--there is NO way to avoid paying those. They also do the jobs I'm not going to do!! 100+ degree heat and sealing driveways??? AS IF brutha! Here's a few bucks, let me know when it's done.
To be clear, I don't condone the illegal behavior and it PI$$ES me off when my patients get snotty because I don't habla Espanol, but those are the excpetions and not the rule. I truly believe they infuse more positive attributes into an area than they do negative.
ps. I'm Italian and was born here so I'm not biased.Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

dem vs. rep. i agree. i might have been a little out of line for saying that and to be real honest with you i am gona actually vote dem this year even know im rep. you cant realy vote a strait ticket any more do to people on the same team still shoot at different hoops. that being said i watch alot of the debates on tv and the dems. or realy wanting to expand the finacial aid for the heath benefits for the people who are poor and dont have them . see the problem with this is the majority of people that are poor choose to be poor due to their lack of motivation and being just plain lazy.. agree ? there lies the problem again for helping people who refuse to help them selves.
and last but not least i realy dont understand why they make different tax bracets. I do agree that if you make a lot of money you should not be intitled to give some of it back for the ones that dont . i also dont agree with having to pay for other people bankruptsy (i think i just mispelled that) either. then they just rebuild like its no big deal and have very little obligation to fix what he has done.
the system started out great but it got out of hane when some they started treating us all unfaily. ex. if you got so much money back and didnt pay anything in i feel like i should get it to. and then it got worse by us being selfish and starting to scam the system and so and so. so now we have pretty much ruined our own system by wanting to be treated fairly which if they would have done to begin with then we would prob be arguing about all kinds of other stuff so its kind of .................half a dozen in one hand and six in the other...
I like Obama, I really do, and too bad Ron Paul doesn't have a shot.....cause I like him more. I digress...... There are fundamental differences between the two parties, I struggle because I lean more towards Libertarian, yet that is not a viable choice today. I cannot stand any of the Republican candidates except Ron Paul......... I'm screwed. I like Obama expept I fear that he is the next Jimmy Carter, neat ideas with a convincing voice and a plausable platform (b/c of Bush),
Anyway best of luck to you, I got my a@@ kicked on the craps tables today, perhaps I need to spend more time on TIGEOWNERS.COM to save me some money.
