In same fire we lost a 71 Cuda 340 also in a brilliant yellow with black interior and the black hood scoop that allowed you to open it to increase air velocity to carb. I had bought the Cuda when I was a teenager and when parents retired we put it in storage and used it on rare weekends out there when not boating.
We have no idea how the fire started. The vehicles where at my parents retirement house in Northwest IN and where totaled. Both cars were always stored with a full tank and fuel stabilizer and driven only in the summer in clear Sunny weather.
That broke our hearts the Monte was my mom's and the Cuda was mine.

That really is a shame to loss a couple nice rides like those. And I bet that the insurance company only paid out half of what they where worth right???
I bet that fire was started by some DUMB A$$ kids. There used to be this old cabin on BLM land we would go to and camp out at (it was our base camp for all our other activities hiking, Mountain Bike, Back country skiing, etc...) while I was in the Corp some kids burnt it down and actuatlly started a SMALL forest fire. I guess offically got there before it could get out of control. but really was too bad. Lots of people got good use out of it. **** like this makes me wish we had a population control program and I was in charge of it LOL haha NO Just kidding or am I??I'm going old school- I'm bring back the SKURFER!!!!!!

Insuance paid very little seeing as the were not insured as rare cars with market value of classic 70's cars replacement policies.. We took it in the can. I won't blame kids for the fire. The small fire dept could not determine cause because once one of the cars gas tank went the garage basically exploded. 60 gals of fuel going off between the two cars we were lucky that it just took out the detached garage.
