I am a Veteran, I do understand your point. Like a little kid in Wal-Mart though, if you reinforce thier behavior by caving to thier demands or acknowledging them it becomes a learned behavior they can use to get what they want--then it never stops.
If you ignore them (I know it's not easy) they learn the time was wasted and move on to thier next ignorant idea.

I agree 100% with what your saying but "if" and god forbid your son died for our country and these idiots were picketing his funeral you wouldn't do anything about it.
There is no way a parent, family or friend could ignore them and unfortunately like you said it will never stop because it becomes a reinforce behavior.
