    Check this out!

I ran across this while looking for some info on for another thread. This engine has about the same HP as the standard powerplant in our boats...but the torque on this must be amazing given the application. Fuel consumption isn't bad either (check out the weight).

    Mercruiser-Cummins powerplant.

How sweet would one of these babies be in our heavily loaded boats?

That would be awesome. Looks like it would fit also. Most diesels have a really deep oil pan, which would make it hard to fit in a inboard, this one looks like it does not.

      The fuel consumption is awesome

Somebody made a diesel performance boat I was reading about in Hot Boat or Powerboat and it sounded really cool. The performance of it was really good according to the tester

He also said they were directing most of thier R&D toward diesel now because it's the future of boating. Interesting.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

There have been quite a few new "performance" boats with diesels at the shows lately. One of my favorites is the spectre sportfish boats with yanmars. The boats in the kingfish tournaments have always been 30-40 foot center consoles powered by 3 or 4 huge fuel hungry outboards, this year spectre has put out a twin diesel powered 36 and the incredibly low fuel consumption is astounding. There is a guy here in St Pete that has put a yanmar in an x-star and a nautique. I would love a diesel in the tige, but I don't have the 10-14k that it would take to get one in the boat. Maybe if the marine power were to ever die and I somehow start making a lot more money.
Here is the x-star with the yanmar.

That would be awsome, just get some one to sell diesel on my lake.
