Those Keys don't work worth a darn in my experience. I have an '02 with a dorsey and we never unplug. Never had any issues with bulbs.

Those of you that unplug, are you trailering your boat a significant distance before you drop in? That is why the bulb gets hot? I have never even thought of doing this, but I have never had a bulb break either.

Luckily, I popped in my spare lock out plug, wrapped the sucker up good with duct tape around the trailer hitch so the sucker would not fall out, and went on my way.
Get a wide strip of Velcro long enough to go around trailer tongue and then cut a slot for the lock out plug to slide thru. You then can put plug in without it falling out.

              That's a much better idea.

                What is your experience?
Unless you are real slow launching the bulbs will still be hot. I think the issue is the electrical current flowing thru a bulb in water that takes it out.
