    Lake Havasu Experts

I know there have been multiple threads on this forum about Havasu but I
could not find them. I know that there are many experts here that visit
there often. I need some guideance please......

I am considering taking a group of boys & girls (high school seniors) there from March 17-21. I am the chaparon and would like to bring the boat
but have no intention of "tie-ing up" with 300+ other boats and trashing
    mine.

The kids are looking to hang out, tan, and have fun on the water. Can
you tell me, is this a good idea to go then?

What are the water/air temps then?
Can you get any decent water for watersports then?
Where is a good place to stay?
Where is a good place to launch?

I have spend time on the parker strip and enjoy the river. I have gone
there to hydrofoil numerous times. Should we stay down on the river
    instead?

Any guideance would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

I am missing you guys by about a week. Air Temp during the day is great 90+ but the water is cold 62-68. As for the Havazoo area it is hit or miss depending upon college spring breaks.

The Chanel is very controlled now. A lot of patrol and rules good with the HS kids if you ask me ( I am a HS teacher).

The Lake is ok for water sports but the traffic and chop picks up and makes it tough to board most of the day. The best water is south or North.

Going North takes you into the Topock gourge a must! This is the grand canyon on water go all the way up to the Topock bridge and let the kids go off of the swing on the bridge. Then head into Topock just up on the right for lunch and a grapes of wrath moment. As you head north you will pass the sandbar. Very cool hang out but with a bunch of HS kids I would just keep going. Too many things are going on especially later in the afternoon and has very little enforcement if any at all.

North of Topock about 4 miles you will find some great water for boarding most of the weekday just don't go past the Needles bridge your prop will never forgive you.

South you will have to check with others on the boards.

As for places to stay. Park Moabi very close to Topock is awesome for camping during March. Fires at night and many camp sites right on the water. This is where I camp and from April to Oct you have to make reservations a year in advance to get a spot. I keep my travel trailer their and don't tent it but many buddies tent it. Park Moabi has the best launch in the area (never crowed, easy, can handle any size boat)

If in Havasu you will have to ask other about lodging. We normall stay with friends in a house when in Havi. As for launch Windsor beach is my favorite. No matter what anyone tells you don't go to Site 6 unless you like a crowd with number signs and a crappy ramp.

Last but not least go to www.riverdavesplace.com and ask there. There are many experts and RD is a guy who really knows his stuff.

If you launch at the South end of the lake it is not bad. The campground is called Cattail cove. It has a nice launch ramp. Most spring breakers want to be in Copper Canyon, the Channel And the sandbar. All 10 + miles to the north. The morning and afternoon is best for boarding and surfing and the tubing in between. You should have no problem finding a cove down there also. Many motels in town, might even be cheaper to find a house to rent. If you come to havasu and decide on the south side of the lake I will loan you my season pass for launching.

How many people total will you have?

As coach says stay away from Site 6. I do not like Windsor either. If you want to leave the boat in the water you can get a slip at the marina.
