I don't remember how much or where I bought my current anchor, but is it me or does that box anchor seem pricey? I'm not a cheap guy but $130 +Shipping is a lot of dough for an anchor.

I like to anchor the boat with the aft of the boat facing the beach, stereo sounds better and easier access to boat. This usually requires us to tie off the aft to a tree or a rock, but as we have discussed in previous threads, I have yet to master the whole anchoring thing for the bow. I can never seem to get it "stuck", I am always monitoring the boat b/c it always seems to drift, even if I dive down and set the anchor. PIA, I always see ppl in their boats with set anchors and am always jealous ..

      Sparky,

If you can dive down to set the anchor, you are either part island boy, or not dropping the anchor out far enough and using too short of a line it sounds like. Need to pay out at least 5ft of rode for every foot of water depth. If it's rough/windy, go with a 7ft to 1ft ratio.

Also, do you have a chain between the anchor and rode. The weight of the chain will help keep the nose of the anchor down so the flukes bite.

CP3 has one and it sets every time, the first time then packs away into a nice neat little bag. I'm really thinking about tossing my big Danforth for a small Box Anchor.

Do they take a lot of storage? Do they work better than the standard triangle anchor?

Not at all as they fold up and fit in a storage bag. I think they work as good as a reg fluke style but are 10x easier to set.

I posted a link to their website on the first page of this thread, they come in a nice stainless or galvanized finish and there is a good shot of how it folds as well.

I have 2 box anchors. They work great. When folded in the bag I keep it on the side of my drivers seat.
                    Let it be!!!

Found this on WakeWorld... This video may change your mind about beaching....

This is what happens when Lake levels get a little too low... This is a 10 minute video but worth watching... I guess the guy had to pay around $2,000 for the chopper service...

My "recovery" was $2,500... At least this guy got a boat that worked afterward...

The prop line has to be at least 30 feet... I can't believe they didn't know how shallow the water was... That's what depth finders are for...
