KICKER or SKYLON

It sounds like you guys are all big fans of Kicker. Maybe my install was bunk!?
We had 2 ZX450.2 amps running the highs and 2 SX1250 amps running the L7 subs in the ported enclosures. Absolutely no complaints with the bass, it hit hard, REALLY hard and sounded pretty clear. The highs though sounded like mud. I certainly am no "Phil" so it may have been that I didn't know how to properly adjust the highs. I certainly tried though.

My factory Kicker stuff sounded like junk til Phil and Spharis helped my get it right 90% was tuning, the rest was rewiring the tower.

I have, waiting to be installed 4-KM620s, 1-ZX700.5 and 1-SKM10. I'm thinking I'm going to wind up with another SKM10 by seasons end. Next up new tower speakers!

That is the SKM10. It uses the KM10 woofer in a 1.1 cu ft sealed enclosure. The thing is roto-molded plastic, and approaches 1/2" thick. A cool feature of the enclosure is that there is a cone shaped feature behind the woofer that connects the front of the enclosure to the back of the enclosure. This feather is formed in as a part of the roto-molding process and give the enclosure incredible rigidity.

It is sealed, and comes with brackets that are reversible; you can mount the enclosure with the woofer firing towards you, or you can can mount the enclosure with the woofer firing slot-loaded into the mounting surface. This gives a little more thump sometimes. the grill is real strong, but slot-load mounting can also help protect the woofer.


Both the enclosure and the grill have drainage channels, so the water will drain away from the woofer regardless of mounting. The enclosure is completely sealed; you can throw it in the water without fear of damage or sinking.

150 Watts RMS power handling, and 4 ohms

There are many options.

I like using two. Put one under the helm, up against the front wall, if you do not mind losing a little "feet space". otherwise, anywhere else in the boat where you are not completely putting it inside of something else.

Put the other underneath where your friends tend to sit or sunbathe. I should not have to go into explanation here, as we all know we not only hear low frequencies, but feel them as well. If this area is tightly sealed, consider installing some "ports" to let the sound out.

My boat is a closed bow sport boat, and I have one firing from under the v-berth, through the cabin door, and out into the cockpt area. The other woofer is under the sun pad, to the port side of my engine. There are ample openings on either side of the rear seat, so I did not install any additional "porting"

KICKER designed it specifically for this eventuality, and yes, you can pile stuff in on top of it if you mount it firing downwards. Just know that the stuff you put on top will buzz if it is hard stuff. Towels? No problem.

Again, and this is a good case in point, you can put one in a storage space, like under a seat, and you will hear it and appreciate it, but it will perform better and sound louder if you provide for a means to get the sound out of the storage compartment. You can do this a lot of different ways...

I will tell you from experience that ther are certain people who are on our boats from time to time who really appreciate being able to sit near the subwoofer and feel the seat vibrating from the subwoofer.
