    KICKER or SKYLON

Ok guys as some of you know I am building up the system for my new 24VE.
I am trying to figure out the tower speakers. I was just about to buy the New Kicker KMT6 tower speakers. I know they look bad but the price is right for my budget. Well I came across a deal for
    1 set of the 150's
    1 set of the 350's
    Skylon sub in ported enclosure.
All for 450.00 I do not know anything about the SKYLON.s I could use some input.

Kicker used to sponsor our MX team. We had an incredible system in our van that would blow out your eardrums. It sounded like garbage though. Did not matter what I did I could not get it to sound crisp or clean--only LOUD.
I personally have never heard a system from Kicker that sounded really, really good (with the exception of thier subs). Keep in mind, we had the best of everything they offered (since it was free )
I would definitely go listen to them b4 you dropped your hard earned money on something you may not be happy with.
    Just my
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Check ebay. I picked up a factory second skylon phanton 69 tower system (MSRP $999????) for under $325 shipped. It sounds fine and gets the job done.

Skylon uses Kicker components in much of their offerings.

Stereo setup (having the right hands on the controls and tweaking) is 75% of how a stereo sounds. The other 25% is the gear being used. I would wager the terrible sounding van could be directly attributed to poor system configuration and over modulation throughout.

Anyone know who's driver Skylon is using or are they thier own The reason I ask is because my factory Tige Tower o Power has all Kicker (except head unit) but the cans are make by Skylon stuffed with Kicker. I thought that is what they were using.

I can say with out a doubt, the Kicker stuff is great. I'm am going with Kicker for my Stereo Install business that I am setting up as we speak. I think they are an excellent blend of price and performance

I would look at the Kicker for their "free air" subs. Boxes take up alot of room.

I am looking into upgrading to at least 1 of the new KTM6's before Summer, I cant wait to hear them

Skylon has developed a line of their own speakers in the last year, or slightly longer. I do not have much of a familiarity with them...

Depending on the age of the stuff you are looking at, there is a very real possibilitiy that the skylon cans are loaded with KICKER coax or component speakers.

The KMT6 is a great sounding product and really gets the sound out there. You have to put a lot more power into a set of coaxials or component speakers to get the same volume at the end of the rope; that is just how physics work.
The KMT6's are also rated to 150 watts RMS; you an really pour some coals to them. With the right power, (like a ZX450.2) they can really rock!!!

A quick word, and this applies to any tower speaker. You will get the best performance from the tower speaker if you engage the tower amplifier's crossover to HI-PASS, and set the frequency to something higher than 50 Hz, maybe even higher. We recommend this to remove the super-low frequencies that most any tower speaker, (except for exotics) cannot reproduce well. Using the crossover in this manner will limit woofer/mid cone excursion, help prevent clipping distortion, and will allow the amplifier to work more efficiently at reproducing the sounds that the tower speakers can reproduce.

Regardless the system, always consider the total package. Be thinking about the amplifier when you are considering the speaker; be thinking about the whole system, amps subs, boat speakers, radio, remotes..... Nobody can correct a poorly thought-out system, even if it is built from world-class product.

I agree on looking at the system in a whole. I have ordered 3 pair of Kicker KM620 6.5 Inch Marine 2-way Speakers and the Kicker ZX700.5 ZX Amp. I guess I should stay with the way I was going. A pair of the KMt6 and the kicker Marine Sub. I do wish the sub was a 12 and not a 10.

You're going to need a for the KMT6's....

Run the bow speakers off the HU the cabin speakers and sub off the ZX700.5 ZX and get a ZX450.2 for the tower and you will be rocking.

go with two 10's... you will get 38% more cone when compared with a single 12. You also can load the sub section of the amplifier down to its rated two ohms, delivering a comfy amount of power to both woofers.

There is room in the boat for two tens, right? That is the problem with 12's... While you might get a 12 in your boat, most boats will not fit a 12 easily...

                    Dog,

The older Skylon 350's used to weigh in at like 60 pounds per pod. The newer ones are much less weight. Are these brand new or older ones?

A friend of mine has a pair of 2007 350's on his tower, and I have a sense that they are not that great. It may be that his stereo guy does not have them hooked up right, but my I would personally take 4 cans hooked up right over what he has.
                    Be excellent to one another.

It sounds like you guys are all big fans of Kicker. Maybe my install was bunk!?
We had 2 ZX450.2 amps running the highs and 2 SX1250 amps running the L7 subs in the ported enclosures. Absolutely no complaints with the bass, it hit hard, REALLY hard and sounded pretty clear. The highs though sounded like mud. I certainly am no "Phil" so it may have been that I didn't know how to properly adjust the highs. I certainly tried though.
