Wow, a law that we have that CA didn't have first??? We always copy CA on their laws...something seems awry.

All pwc's come equiped with a lanyard and I think that is what the intent of the law is... and what they will be looking for. Has it become such a problem of people riding pwc's without one that they had to write a law? On a pwc it is just plain common sense but there are enough idiots out there on those things that maybe it is!
But if I had a boat and it had one it might suddenly become unequiped.

Y, it makes perfect sense on a PWC. Maybe if you reread the law, its not for all boats?

I can see they COULD be a safety help in a boat, but you forget your wearing them, and you move around.

Wanna hear something funny? I have one of those lanyards on my pontoon boat with the 50hp motor. The thing does 20mph downwind only. I could almost swim and catch up to it.

I don't have the pamphlet here with me, but the way it read was that it is for all boats equipped with cutoffs. PWCs are already covered by a regulation requiring them to have a cutoff and lanyard attached to the rider. This specifically addresses boats that aren't PWC.

              lanyard in your boat

I've purchased 2 Tiges the last 3 years and both came with lanyard. I thought that all boats are riquired to have it already.

I'm pretty sure a number of states already have that rule. I'm also pretty sure there was a products liability lawsuit a number of years back which led to the more widespread installation of the lanyards on boats. The particular case I'm thinking of had to do with a person being thrown from the boat and then being hit by the prop. Personally, I don't want to wear one. I did learn the hardway why it's a good idea to wear one an a PWC. I was the passenger, and I didn't realize that the driver wasn't wearing the lanyard. we both went flying off the thing, and it just kept on motoring along down the lake. Fortunately, a person on another PWC realized what was going on and grabbed it. Nonetheless, I don't go out on big water, and thus, I still don't wear the lanyard unless I have someone on the back.

No way would you ever catch me on a PWC with out the Lanyard attached to my life vest. I live in California and talk about liability!!! I attach it to my lifevest so I don't have to mess with it around my wrist. Also I don't care for my PWC to run off with out me in the middle of the lake.

See what happens, when you are driving 35+ and you stand up, or reach over to get a pepsi or something. Like hitting the breaks, and your kids go flying. Don't wear that sucker anymore.

That is definitely a secondary offense type law, no way they can enforce, just keep it hanging and if you get pulled over, clamp it on your shorts.
                        LOL! you said a PEPSI!!!

LOL, you caught me, I don't drink. No alcohol on my boat. Even worse, I drink Diet Pepsi, or Fresca.
