    New boating law in NV...seriously?

So I just got my registration renewal in the mail for NV today. In the envelope is a change to the NV boating laws that went into effect 1 Oct 2007.

"The first change what will impact many boaters requires them to wear the engine cutoff lanyard, on equipped vessels, anytime the boat is moving faster that a no wake speed (5 mph)"

I couldn't even tell you where my lanyard is.
    Honey I'm home!

Mine was never equipped with one.

Mine doesn't have one either. I wish it did. Call me a dork, it's ok. I'd wear it, probably only when my kids were in the boat, but I'd still wear it.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I have one in my boat but I don't know where I would attach it... I usually only wear my shorts... and there's no good spot to attach... Are you supposed to wrap around your wrist? Because mine seem like it's way too short to do that... How annoying... That scares me when an adjoining state comes up with cockamamie laws...

I have had them on my last 3 boats. I think they are more dangerous, I let mine hang. I tried wearing it at first on the first boat I had. See what happens, when you are driving 35+ and you stand up, or reach over to get a pepsi or something. Like hitting the breaks, and your kids go flying. Don't wear that sucker anymore.

That is definitely a secondary offense type law, no way they can enforce, just keep it hanging and if you get pulled over, clamp it on your shorts.

            That is pretty stupid...

I kinda see it causing more problems. I can see people driving down the main channel, reach over away from the wheel, BAM your dead in the water.

My boat doesnt have one but I would not be able to count how many times I would walk away from the drivers seat with that thing still attatched and kill the engine trying to dock or change skiiers.

                  lanyard's

My boat never had a lanyard either, and when the key is in the ignition and on it is locked into the ignition and won't come out with a lanyard anyway, you have to physically turn the key back to the left to pull it out, just like a car.....It does say on the new lanyard law "on equipped vessels" so I assume it doesn't apply if you aren't equipped with a lanyard system? Anyone have any clarity on this subject??

My boat would very quickly not be equipped with a lanyard if it say on boats equipped. It is very easy to remove and by pass.

I was thinking my cutoff might mysteriously disappear at some point this winter. Honestly I don't know where it went...

dabell I bet that you will hint it since you work at that crazy place. J/K

So blame dabell when it happens I bet he could get it into the computer systems so it just shows up one day on the computer screens for a vote and like everything else the senate will vote for somthing they know nothing about. They just vote because it is on the screen for a vote. J/K of course.
