Dom,
How many BCS teams were supposed to play Hawaii this year and backed out?
Michigan, Michigan State and Texas.
Hawaii coach June Jones wanted his football team to open the season at Michigan. The Wolverines wouldn’t play the Warriors and instead hosted Division I-AA Appalachian State, which beat Michigan 34-32 in one of the biggest upsets in college football history.
Hawaii was scheduled to play Michigan State this season, but the Spartans paid $250,000 to cancel the game. Jones tried to replace the Spartans with Southern California, but even the Trojans wanted no part of quarterback Colt Brennan and the Warriors’ high-octane offense.
Still, at the root of the problem is the BCS system itself. Realistically you're going to see more and more teams schedule soft intentionally (ala Kansas). This will still happen until the system gets revised.
Is Hawaii the best team in the NCAA. Probably not, but they beat every team they have played and #19 Boise State was no push-over and who knew that Washington was going to be this bad this year. Beat who you play, and do you really think that Ohio State is head and shoulders better than UH? Have you seen UH play this year? Or do you form your opinions from ESPN and FOX Sports. Come on DOM give the WAC some credit, I mean they did beat your beloved Sooners last year.
To end my rant I will say that Hawaii is the ONLY undefeated team left. They did play some good teams, and many good teams did not want to interupt their precious schedules with a potential loss to a WAC team. The Warriors deserve a chance, and they will never get the chance until a playoff system is in place. UH is good and I'd f*c*ing love to watch the Warriors kick Ohio States a$$.
GO BEAVERS!!!!
