The sound quality should be identical to the ipod with the input going to the AUX input on my HU.
My only thing is that I need to find a longer cable with the right sized connectors. I think I want to mount this on the dash, but the HU is on the port side, so I will likely run a cable under the floor. Will need to be about 8 feet long.
I think it said this setup comes with the Y splitter and all to connect to the AUX inputs.
I'm in the same boat (pardon the pun) let me know what you come up with. I won't be installing mine until spring when the weather warms a bit.
I think it would be beneficial to move this thread to the stereo section or create a new one and sticky it for install Q&A between us as we find solutions.
I first saw this thing a few weeks back on WW in this thread here and i think it gives some solutions to install answers.

Hey Tall according to the specs this thing comes with the following; "3-meter installation cables for display and controller included"
which is 39 inches a meter or 9.75 feet total so your good.

I have 2, and they did not come with the direct connect cables. They also don't even come with direct connect FM. It comes out of box, with just FM modulation. You have to buy the direct FM kit, or the 1/8 to RCA cables yourself. At least that is the way mine came, on 2 occasions.

I ran a 20 foot aux to mini around from under the glovebox, around the bow to the under the driver dash. Going from the hole under the glovebox to under the driver is getting pretty full of cables for me with the PAC-1's and the ballast wiring. I have had the HK for a while, just never a permanent mount. Hopefully this winter I will do it right and eliminate the double sided tape stuff.

Does the sound quality diminish with a cable that long? I know it can for speakers with super long wires.
Im out then, I messed last year with the mini AUX ( IPOD to the Clarion HU via mini AUX) and I was not happy with the sound quality. It just sounded dull to me. I would end up using the same files and ripping a CD.
I know the reviews are good of this unit but I play my music really loud and want a the best signal possible through the IPOD.
Any other idea's how to get CD quality through the I Pod's?
On the Clarion HU you can adjust the AUX input sensitivity. This helped mine. I have the xmd3 HU
