I vote for keeping it the same. It's for selfish reasons. We go boating in Warm Creek. It saves us time from going way up river to find smooth water. Yeah, we have to put up with the treacherous narrows and the tour boat w/ the wake form the Perfect Storm. Once we get there, Awesome! Nobody else goes there. They just turn right and keep going up river. We were there with OWN a few years ago. He knows what I'm talking about.

We do the same thing, Warm Creek has been the best since the water has been low, but don't say too much cause then everybody will go back there.

I'm a tree hugger as well, but also believe in a balanced approach. When it comes to Lake Powell, it's true that many beautiful areas are now under water but Lake Powell has provide outdoor recreation to millions that very few would have experienced if the dam had not been there. For those who still want the wilderness experience, believe me, there are still miles and miles of similiar landscape in Southern Utah that are not underwater and are protected.

...and that will be the least of your worries, my friend.

I'm with team on this one, we have enjoyed Warm Creek several times since the pass is impassable.

We had an interesting experience with tree huggers a few years ago. We were in a side canyon back in Escalante and this boat load of folks show up and tie off close to us. They go walking out around the cove we were in acting very strange, almost like stalkers or something. I finally went out and said are you looking for something or can I help you. They explained that with the elevation of the lake they figured we were camped right by a natural bridge and they wanted to see it before the lake rose. It turned out they were off by about 10' and it was still under water. We had our scuba gear and proceeded to dive through it and to the cove on the other side, it was great fun. Back to the story they stayed and talked a while. We asked them if they had ever hiked to Rainbow Bridge as they were for draining the lake. They said no and had been many times by boat, we asked how many times they would have been if it had'nt been by boat and all replied maybe once. They refused to see the argument that more people enjoy the area with the lake in place than without. Even though they admittedly would not visit as often having to hike. Some people are hard to figure out. I'm all for getting the lake back full. Let it snow, let it snow!!!!

Now that would be cool! How was the water clarity?

Yeah, some people just don't understand the consequences of what they believe in and what they would lose. Agreed, long live Lake Powell and the clean energy that it provides! If you ever want to read a good book that explains the history of Lake Powell and both sides of the argument, get the book called,

Clarity has never been great when we have had dive gear, but that trip it was in the 10' range and it was alot of fun to see the big stripers hanging out under the bridge. I also have come to the rescue of several sunglasses and once a watch. I try to always have a tank and basic gear, if for nothing other than misc. rescue missions. About ten years ago we were at the big sand hill across from Wahweep and below the cliffs where people jump a guy had his dive flag up and was searching for a guys Rolex. He had been paid $150 to search for for a several thousand dollar watch. He found a whole diddy bag full of stuff, but claimed to never had found the watch. I think my best treasure has been that usually every trip we bring up at least a full hefty bag of trash from whatever cove we are in. It's kind of like a scavanger hunt. Who can find the coolest crap. Anyone that's been knows that when the wind comes up, if it's not tied down it has a good chance of ending up in the lake. That is another argument for not draining the lake, it would take years to clean up what has settled to the bottom. I have to many memories at the lake, I don't know what I would do with that time in the summer spent there.
