I'm already working on this... I working on a couple of grants next year via the EPA and dept of energy to do a study on alternative (biodiesel) fuels in tow sports. My plan is to utilize either two 22vés or 2 RZ-2s and have them converted to a cummins mercruiser diesel. The powerplant I'm currently looking at is the CMD QSD4.2-350i (http://www.cmdmarine.com/qsd4.2.html). The maximum horsepower of this powerplant is 350bhp, and torque is rated at 519 ft-lbs@2600rpm. This is a 4.2L I-6 marine turbodiesel.
The intent of the study is to do a comparative analysis of petroleum diesel vs. B100 biodiesel and different mixtures in-between, and then compare the two to a baseline vortec 5.7L small block (my current MAG MPI).
The plan is to measure fuel consumption, emissions (CO2, N0x, Sulfur, etc), noise, and engine wear.
Theres a lot of legwork yet to do, in order to get there but I'll keep y'all posted.Freude am Fahren.

I'm going to have to find a stronger V-drive thats rated for that kind of torque... which I'll work through CMD or Tige. The question at that point is whether or not it'll fit. Like I said... a lot to do before this is a reality, but I'm spending a LOT of time planning before doing anything. The first phase of the grant application is all planning anyways.Freude am Fahren.

Phil knows about Marine Diesel...
There is an outfit in Stillwater Oklahoma called Performance Product Technologies. They do many things in the marine world, but also have a business specifically for the manufacture and marinizing of diesel marine powerplants. The motors are built on the base, (what is it? ) 8.1 litre V-8 block that goes in the "real" hummers.
The motors are supercharged, and are pretty darned efficient. They also sound awesome; no clatter/rattle like in a truck motor.
BTW, the guy is also a Tige' dealer... That business is H2O SPorts Unlimited. It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

I tell you, they had the biggest power version motor in a Wellcraft Scarab hull for a while. The boat was fast....
I also should share that the block may be the 6.5 litre... I am a little rusty on thier stuff...
