Help - Broken Glove Box

My glove box door has all broken holes where the rivets used to be. Also, the rivets that hooks the hinge onto the boat are also breaking.

Anybody have this happen before and what did you do to fix? My thought is to glue a new piece of plastic strip on the door and then re-rivet it back on and then use bigger rivets on the hinge.

I'd try glueing a thin strip of aluminum instead of plastic. The door flap would be wedged/riveted between 2 strips of aluminum. If there's enough room behind the hinge rivets, bent over SS fender washers would spread the force out. SS machine screws and and nylon locknuts might be easier to work with. They can be snugged up tight, but not crack things like rivets can.

When i got mine the glove box was already broken around the hinge so i tried and failed to fix it. I ordered a new one to the tune of $130!!!! guess what? After one season it's already cracking and i've been super easy on it. Come spring i'm going to epoxy some thin aluminum underneath to brace it.

Never worked with Gorilla Glue. Seen it around a lot. I'd probably use a 5 min epoxy since that's what I have lying around. Repairing plastic is tedious. If you ever have something plastic break or crack I've had good luck with JB Weld. It won't hold just a crack, but if there is room on the back side for a puddle of the stuff it works great. Sticks well to plastic, but takes forever to dry. I've used pieces of paper clips or metal screen for extra strength.

Machine Shop

Moki, Go to a machine shop and have a nice aluminum glove box lid cut out. Polish it up real good and there you go problem fixed. It would cost the same as a new lid probably but be stronger.

Just my thoughts.

Personally, I would convince my wife it was a sign from above telling us we need a new RZ1 Problem solved.

New Tower, racks and mirror
New Stereo
New In-boat speakers
New Tower Speakers
New Amps
New custom ballast sacs
New high output alternator
Added 2 more batteries
New Fresh Air Exhaust
New Trailer wheels and tires

Lastly, it's all paid for. I think I am going for another year or two before I pull the trigger on a new boat. But, if the right deal came along....who knows?

Thanks, but I have to admit that when I see your guys newer boats, my trigger finger gets itchy.
