Dallas -
I live here in the Dallas area, and I try to ride year 'round. I use a engine compartment heater, and I have never had an issue. The only time there could be a problem is in event of a natural dissaster and your power is out for a day or so.
The heater turns on at about 40 degrees in your compartment, and shuts off automatically. The cost to run is very low, and the manufacturer warrants your block.
I keep my boat in a garage, and rarely does the heater ever have to run.
Here is the heater I use - http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...2&classNum=743
