yeah, i have talked to a couple people that have been there but they only had sport boats, not houseboats. the water level is the lowest it's been since they filled the lake but with powell being 600' deep in some places when it's full it can afford to lose a bunch of water and still be a great lake. i'm really trying to find out if anyone has been there on a houseboat yet and what the camping or beaching is like. it's actually pretty cool w/ the water level changing so much. it's like a different lake everytime you go, you'll have to make it there, it is a MUST DO trip for sure. thx for the props on the new ride, it's almost done.

Just got back from powell! Its great, all ramps open, If comming from Az use antalope point ramp, They say its closed but you can still use it, Best water is at the San Juan river, Its 59 miles up the channel but its worth it. Their is a marina at mile 50 called dangling rope, Its only access is by water but it has gas, food, ice, reatrooms.

Lake Powell is definetely the highlight of every year for us. We'll be spending the last week of July on Lone Rock Beach, then back for Labor Day.
Another really good place to get up to the minute info on the lake is the Waynes Words website (wayneswords.com). The site is actually more geared toward fishing, but the forum covers pretty much everything about Lake Powell including ramp and water conditions.

Great to hear some people talking about Lake Powell! I live in Oklahoma and just booked the BIG 75' houseboat for next Memorial Day. We are starting at the far south end of the lake by the dam at Waheap and have not reseached the good places to go, see and ski. Can any of you "regulars" give me a few ideas on some good canyons and cool places to ski? THANKS!!!!! We cant wait - we have been trying to put this together for the last 10 years!

dents - although we go out of bullfrog (north end) i actually like the south end waweap better for several reasons, but one of them is that there is typically more good spots to anchor the houseboat as well as ride. I haven't been all the way down to the south end for a couple years, so i'll have to wait until i get home and dig out my powell map to tell you the spots that are good. basically the further you get from the marina, the less people you'll find. you should be able to find a great spot w/o going all the way to dangling rope.

Dents, Navajo canyon has a lot of good houseboat spots, also labyrinth canyon has one of my favorite spots. We are always at powell on Memorial, and blr is correct stay as far from the marinas as possible, Dangling rope area would take all day to get to in a house boat, your best bet would be Navajo canyon.

P.S. Top of the tank one day and head to rainbow bridge, The drive takes about 15 gal. at 30mph on my 20v so you may want to hit dangling rope marina before heading back. also on the east side of Padre bay around the corner from goosneck point is a spot we call "Rock out cove". check it out if your in tha area.

                        5 Days in Powell

I just got back from Powell yesterday (I'm very sad to be back). The weather was sweat, air temps in the 90's, and water temps around 75. We were there for 5 days (on lake) and had the sweet butter every day. The most scetchy parts of the lake are the boat ramp and some of the side canyons. Other than that, not too much to worry about. In fact, the depth finder was reading above 250 feet most of the time.

I spent last week at Powell and had a great time. Air temp was 92-97 and the water was 76. Yes the lake is down 113 feet and dropping slowly, but there is still plenty of great water. There may be more good beach areas at this level. We stayed in Face Canyon and Padre Bay- both great spots. Four days will only wet your appetite and you will immediately be planning the return trip. Have a great time.

Just following up on this thread. Anyone been to Powell in the last week or two? We're leaving for our annual trip to Loan Rock Beach next week , and was wondering if anyone was there recently.

ok all - I just got back from a week in powell. It was awesome. I do have one piece of advice, if someone tells you the water is low, tell them "yes it is, you probably shouldn't go, it could be dangerous" only because i love powell when so few people are there. we hardly had to wait for anything! dumping waste tanks, getting fuel, docking at the marinas. all were easy because the crowd level was non existant. Yes the water is a little lower than last year (about 20 feet) but it is still over 100ft deep in most places and over 400ft was the deepest I found. Great trip all in all!
