My review of the 2008 Z1

My local dealer, Redline Water-sports held there annual whine and cheese event on a local lake. This is a great event where Redline brings the full line up out on the water for past, present and future Tige owners to come have look and drive. This was the second time I have attended ( last year at this event is when I became a Tigeowner for those that remember)

The event was great, weather was dry, somewhat cold but clear. Perfect conditions to have the lake to ourselves. Water temp was a brisk 56C so no one was tempted to board or surf on this day...

    Boats in attendance were:

    RZ4
    RZ2
    Z1
    24Ve
    22Ve
    20V
    20I

Everyone was welcome to drive any of the models as much as they would like ( and we all did) ask questions and talk about the boats we all love.

there is for sure a lot of interest in Tige's in our area as there were a few MC and BU owners there to check out the Tige's

I was really interested to check out the new Z1.

I gotta tell you this boat looks good on the water! I think Tige hit a home run on the look of the boat. Inside it is much differnet then what we are all use to.

The free board is quite low and has a malibu type feel to it. I personally was a bit cramped in the drivers seat ( I am about 6.4) and felt very close to the dash, the exact same way I felt when I sat in the BU line or our old maxxum I/O. The layout of the dast was quite nice and easy to see and reach everything.

The rear lockers are big! I don't think the pics do it justice, I did not measure but I feel they are larger bays then my RZ2. The opening is wider and longer.

The shape of the hull is very good, The boat had no ballast and there were only 2 of us, when we took here out. I was pretty impressed and would say if the factory ballast is ever going to be enought for a boat this is the boat that will shine.

The only two things I did not like and I suggest Tige make these changes fast!

    Are:

    1) the plastic dash insert and glove box are super cheap! I think any bayliner has a nicer glovebox door and dash insert! It appears to be a cheap flimsy type plastic. totally brings down the look of the boat.

    2) they need to come up with a simple shelf to cover the motor when you lift the hatch, BU has this and it is a good compromise and makes a useless opening usefull with a place to keep rope(s) handles, gloves etc etc.

Overall I like it and I think if Tige is going to sell quite a few of these !

    Other notes from the event:

the latest boats with ballast have the switches moved to the lower right hand area of the dash. ( quite nice)

wow that throws a pretty good wake for that sized boat. I'd buy one in an instant, but i think it would be to small for me.

I see they really like the Samson Razor up there. Me Like! My next boat may very well have that tower. I think it is solid, tall and folds down easy. The racks turn in easily too. Any complaints about that tower?

I see the RZ2 has the switchblade...did you shake it a little? The one I have seen here was like the leaning tower of Pisa, when you put a little pressure on it.
          Be excellent to one another.

All the boats Redline sells, he sells with Samson towers.

I have a switchblade on my RZ2 and I had the Razor on my 22VE. and I have to say the switchblade feels sturdy. I would say it is one strong tower. infact I think it is stiffer then the Razor. It mounts alot different to the boat and it is made out of thicker material. I would tell the guy you saw it with to get his checked because something is wrong with it if it flexes a lot.

Great job Kscales. It is nice that you were paying attention to details. The dash layout of the Z1 looks awesome in the pictures.

And yes, I spotted several cupholders

Granted, they're not as nice as the stainless ones in my boat, but they are there in plain sight.

                    I agree

Tige.com say the "Stainless steel appearance package" is optional. If I remember right, that includes the cup holders. Hope this is correct.

looks like a nice boat. IT looks really small inside, but then again I have a 21i and have not seen any v boats but 24's and they are huge!!

Love the tower, and it looks like it could fit right where my current tower is.

                      Great write up!
