I think you missed the point. What MC has done is when they retired the old X-star (?99-03+/-), and then came out with the pickle forked X-star, they then reintroduced the very same old X-star, but with another name, it may have been the X-1.
DING DING DING!!! The Old XStar became the X-2 which is now the X-1. Supposed to be one of the worst rough water riding boats out there. Same hull as the old ProStar 205V which used to be AWSA approved if that makes a difference to you. Still supposed to be the best weighted boat there is.

The MasterCraft is a very good boat , but is no comparison to a tige , the biggest differances still exist in drivability , they do not turn well esspecially with full ballast to the left , they roll over on there side in the turn , very slow to go on plane and allmost double in fuel consumption. By all means go out and drive , ride and do back to back demos if at all possible.

Also just from the pictures of the Z1 the V215 seems to have more cabin room. But i'm holding off judgement 'till the boat show in January.
        Which boat show?

The 2000 X-star became the X-2 in 2003 when MC released their "superfly" hull, which is being used on the current X-star. Last year, MC decided to update the X-2 line and made it into a 21' "superfly" hull, minus the tracking fins and with a narrower beam. What was previously the Xstar, and then the X2 hull is now called the X1. This is for two reasons- price point (entry boat) and the fact that so many people like that hull design (enthusiast boat), which is indeed a sick ride. Also, this is the boat that Tigé specifically targeted with the Z1.

              Still think its nonsense?

After driving several of these, I find this questionable. With ballast full my 22v, when turning left I get an air pocket between the prop and rudder, causing me to have to change speed to maintain control. This has never happened in any of the Xstars or X2s that I've driven.

Also, how does a lighter boat with a narrower beam and the same size engine get double the fuel consumption? assuming the prop and transmission ratios are close to the same

yes... that hull and the pre 2007 nautique 210 SANTE are the best weighted wakes around. They arent designed for rough water, so yeah- they'll be a bit bouncy. I'm waiting to see what the wake of the Z1 will do.
