    Concerning "Z" Towers

Have a Z tower on my RZ 4. The right upright or leg or whatever you want to call it has to be beat in the last inch in or the first inch out depending if raising or lowering. In addition to that the bolts that go in the top of the uprights have already worn the threads badly due to the heli-coils that tige uses not holding up. All of this and the tower has been up and down six or seven times. For a $3,500.00 option BOY am I really thrilled. Sound off anybody and let me hear your experiences.

    I like your quote, BTW.

I do not have any direct knowledge of your tower...but my dealer likes to call it the Chee-Z tower because it is a pain to get up and down. It seems very sturdy, but he wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has to get their tower up and down every trip.

Do you loosen the bolts when you put it down?
    Be excellent to one another.

Sounds like a problem created when it was PDI'd (pre-delivery inspection) by the dealer (striped threads anyway) but regardless of by whom or when the problem was created, the binding upright should have been fixed by your dealer long before you ever saw the boat.

I helped my dealer remove 4 boats from the hauler and place on trailers last month, and helped PDI and water test 2 of them. These things come in stacked on a trailer much like a car hauler. Towers are all folded down, mirror and uprights were boxed up in the storage compartment. I know, but it was fun.

Call the Ski Dock and explain the situation. They'll take care of it. I do know that when I was talking to one of their sales guys, he recommended not going with the Z tower because, in his words, it wasn't really a collapsible tower. The E tower was a better choice because it collapsed lower than the Z.

Who is the Ski Dock, I'm still learning so bear with me. Also if it is not really a collapsible tower why does Tige sell it as such, and this was told to me at the FACTORY no less. I'm beginning to question my choice of tige over CC.

At this point I agree with your dealer, and yes you have to remove the bolts to lay the tower down.

Stuff happens. Don't get down because of little things. CC, Bu, Cobalt, it doesn't matter, these are incredibly complicated pieces of machinery and things will ALWAYS go wrong from time to time. Your problem, luckily, should be a warranty fix and it should cause you a minimum of hassle. Yes it's a hassle, but I've never heard of a trouble free motorized vehicle period. Think about how many thousands of things that could go wrong but don't.

If you want a tower that can go up and down with ease go with the sampson like I did

Tige makes a great boat but the towers always concern me. As CP3 said, go with a Samson. That's what I put on my RZ4. Maybe you can swap it out at your Tige dealer.

I have over a 150 hours on my Z tower and dont have any issues with it. However I have only collapsed it once and that was at the factory. Its sturdy but then again I dont fold it down at all. But I agree with what Jason B said.

Which Samson..? I assume the Razor. I saw a switchblade tower and it was very wobbly.

TallTige, my tower doesn't wobble at all, it's very sturdy. I have a 485 and a pair of 80's, theres still not much movement. I'm not sure which samson tower I have. Here's a link to my boat thread, maybe you know.

That is the switchblade...I can't help but think that the one I saw had some sort of issue with it. Korgae Scales has the same tower and says it is rock solid also...so I guess like judging people, you can't judge a whole group of people by just one you see!
