    Hot Tige no more

I read somewhere on the site about overheating due to getting debris in the water intake. This happened to us the other day. Had to take the hose loose from the oil cooler and backwash every thing in order to finish out the day. When I got home I pulled the floor hatch out to get at all the plumbing to see how it was routed. I am soooooooooo pissed at TIGE for not installing a very simple and relatively inexpensive sea strainer in the intake before it ever gets to the transmission. It woulf be serviceable through the hatch in the rear seat. I ordered mine today and will post some pics when I get it installed. Since I live in Texas within a 3 hour drive you can bet that TIGE will be hearing from me. Well I've whined enough please let me know how many have had the same problem.

It seems to be only a regional thing. I've boated on the same lake for over 10 yrs and never had a prob.

    glad you caught it early.

I haven't had a problem with my water intake getting clogged. However, I can see where there could be problems further downstream. The lake that I go to (of course is extremely low right now and only a 5 MPH zone) receives water from the mountains to the east. There isn't any major cities up river from the lake so there isn't a lot of debris in the lake from the start. But, I am glad you solved your issue before you caught it too late.

Even with a sea strainer, you would have overheated. Granted it may have been easier to correct the situatation, but I'd be worried about the impeller running dry, then your day would have been over.

My dealer told me that over the course of a one particularly dirty weekend out at a local lake, they saw between 30-40 boats in their svc. department for this problem.

I don't think any boat manufacture comes standard with a sea strainer.
Maybe certain regional dealers install them on every boat? Like the Tigé dealership in Florida does.

I've winterized a lot of inboards by different makes that didn't have a strainer. Its a great thing to have, but to be useful it needs to be readily visible.
Indecision may or may not be my problem

The boat would cool off if you idled down and I had the same thought as you concerning the impeller so checked it and everything was ok since it never ran totally dry. The point is that with a sea strainer you clean the basket in about 5 minutes and your playing again.

This one will be as visible as you can be without running a lot of extra plumbing that I don't think is really necessary. Inspection will take about 30 sec. pull seat cushion open hatch and there you have it.

I think this is exactly the point I am trying to make. If something so simple can save all this trouble it NEEDS to be standard equipment on this high end of a boat. In fact it could possibly be make Tige a leader in the industry and definitely good PR as the only manufacturer that makes it standard equipment or at the very least an option.

And 30-40 boats could ALL have been saved this misery!!!!!!

My dealer, Forte's inboard connection, almost insist on installing one before the boat goes out new (at a price). but well worth the investment

The sea strainer is an option and is listed in the showroom pamphlet. We equip every boat sold here with them.

(Knock on wood) I have never had any problem with debris getting into the engine. I think a sea strainer in my neck of the woods would be just another opportunity for something to spring a leak, or another opportunity for some guy at the factory to not tighten the clamps properly and then my boat fills with water.
