Depends on the formation....A team can run a 3-3-4 = 3 fullbacks, 3 mids, and 4 strikers, or a 4-2-4 = 4 backs, 2 mids, 4 strikers or numerous combos. Either way, the goalie is usually the one to stop the ball from entering the goal, the other 3 or 4 on defence will block shots and passes, except on a corner kick, where you will want to stack the defense heavy with your midfielders and at least 1 striker.
