Just got a new 08 RZ 4. Love the boat but then I found out top speed is 32-33 mph with the prop it came with. I don't know of anybody that can barefoot at that speed. Now I'm worried about "hole shot" when we change the prop to get the 40-42 mph we need for the wild bunch. Any comments will be appreciated.

Welcome to the site and when you have some time and pictures, please post them of the boat. We thrive on pictures on this site.

I would be a little interested to know why you are only able to go 32-34 MPH with the boat. Are you up in altitude? Everyone with a Tige is going about 38 to 45 MPH.

Have you talked with the dealer about this speed? It sounds a little odd that the speed is that slow especially since it is the top of the line boat that Tige makes.

When you say "change", did you put on a new prop or are you planning to purchase a new prop?

Where do you live? What elevation?

My speedo was way off on my boat when I first got it...are you sure that is your max speed? Waterskiing at 42MPH isn't very fun, BTW.

I would consider that you are not getting all the power you should.

      What engine do you have?

What prop is on there now?

Just some random thoughts for starters.

      Give us more information.

I was wondering about speedo accuracy also. Has 340 HP. Prop is 13.5x16. Dealer said he checked speedo and it was OK I wonder what he had to compare it to? Don't have any pics available YET but I'll get some up soon. Live in west Texas elev in area 2-3000' depending where. Whew I hope I got it all. thanks guys

That alt would show a little bit but not enough to slow you down by 10 MPH. I have the same engine and length of boat and I am definitely not running that slow. I would ask the dealer how he checked the speed. Do you recall the RPM's on the engine when going that fast?

Are you running the boat with ballast tanks full? That would put more weight in to the boat but still the speed is slow.

Something seems off to me. What RPM are you running that speed at?

Sounds like your speedo may be off. I'd check it with a GPS.

That doesn't sound right at all. I have the 24Ve, same engine. I have 8 in my family, and always have 800lbs of ballast in addition in the lockers, and I can still hit 42mph. If you are going 5000 rpm, you should be hitting 40.

I agree with everybody on this, something sounds funky Confirm speed (with GPS) and RPM. If that speed is true, have the dealer verify Wide Open Throttle. He should be able to see the reading on the scan tool as well as drive the throttle motor with the scan tool. 5k rpm's sounds pretty close to WOT tho.

Those prop numbers? did you get those off the prop that is on the boat, or is that what the dealer said should be on there?

You did unhook the boat from the trailer right

J/K, let us know what you find and post some pics when you get a chance.

I'd be more interested in knowing why you're trying to barefoot behind a 24 foot wakeboard boat- which is designed for low-end grunt and not 45mph barefoot runs?

Tige is heralded as an "all around" boat. I do anything you can think of behind my boat. I personally could never afford a "barefoot" boat and a wakeboard boat. I would have to assume this is the case also w/ Onevalkarie--especially since he's rollin' baller style in a brand new boat. In this case he bought a great boat to do everything he wants.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Could the prop be slipping? I know a friend that had a similar problem ( no top end) and it turned out to be a defect in the prop he had put on. I was a older boat, but basically the same thing was happening to him, high revs with no speed.

the indmar 383 may indeed be a gen III, as when they get the block, its actually a 350. They increase the stroke in-house, so this isnt the old 6.2L small block that GM was selling.
