CDC says the vast majority of cases appear in boys and young men. There are not many cases, but those are the stats.

It's good that they are raising awareness, although they don't quite go into enough detail.

yeah, but if you start going into too much detail you lose the general public. See, Jethro, his son Jim-Bob, and his unclecousin Joe-Bob will still be a-flyin' from their rope swing if they dont get it.

so our local little 800 acre lake is a cooling system for the local pwer plant so the water is being circulated. so its no considered a stagnant lake right ?

in your case, the water will be even warmer than normal. Although its not stagnant, microorganisms can thrive in this environment. Be careful- you're actually at high risk:

Naegleria fowleri is found worldwide. Most commonly, the ameba is found in:

Warm bodies of freshwater, such as lakes, rivers
Geothermal water such as hot springs
Warm water discharge from industrial plants
Poorly maintained and minimally chlorinated swimming pools
                      Soil

it has more to do with water temperature. Lower lake levels are typically warmer, since the sun has less to heat up.

I firmly believe that the rash of occurances in Texas are actually the result of the flooding in the area of Lake LBJ and Marble Falls. The flooding actually stirred up a lot of standing water that had been sitting since the prior heavy rains that recently went through the area. All this water from higher elevations (i.e. flooded streets, sewers, septic tanks, etc.) then washed into the highland lakes system, causing a higher than normal concentration of Naegleria fowleri.
