    Heads up on Florida Lakes

Check this out: http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/09/18...kes/index.html. We had a couple of incidents in some stagnant areas of Lake LBJ.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all of these families.

I read about this a month ago and it has been on my mind ever since.

Even though I am up north our water temp is above 80 for most of summer. I thought these were isolated to Florida but you have had cases in Texas too?

I suppose it is a much greater risk just driving to work, but at least I feel like I have controll over driving.

I thought it was bad enough when we only had to worry about the alligators
My wife won't consider going in the water now until it cools down

I think the key is "stagnant" bodies of water, especially after you've had a lot of run-off. You know they tell you not to go in the water after a flooding event because of bacteria levels. This is probably a better reason because this type of organism gets washed into the lakes to begin with.

"Wow this really is true." One of my sons good friends and riding buddies just moved to Orlando for him to progress his wakeboarding future. He met up with us two weeks ago at Gaston for a comp and ended up having these very symptoms. He was telling us about these aomeba thing a ma jiggies and I thought he was crazy, sounded far fetched to me. Anyway he and his father were really panicing and he ended up taking him to the hospital to get checked. Ended up he just caught some bug and it wasn't this, but they were really scared because it had been all over the news down in Orlando, and he has been spending a lot of time on the water. I guess he was right. Amazing what such little things can do to harm us................
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

Now there's a case from Lake Havasu

                Here's the article.

                That's 6 cases this year.

I wonder why it seems to only be adolescents that are dying from this?
