I hope you have a good experience with your insurance company and that this opens the door to a new 22V!

It seems every tow boat that I've seen "sink" have all rolled over when they fill up with water I wonder if it's the weight/hight of the tower that causes the boat to roll.

        well,
lets think about that....... where is the flotation in the boat? under the floor. once the boat fills and a wave rocks it over, then the boat will "float" to its area of most floatation.

That is a great attitude to have. I am sorry to hear about this but at least no one was hurt.

            Insurance Offer

Do not accept the first offer you get from the insurance company. Get appraisals of like boats, use NADA, use whatever resource to establish your claim for the value of the boat. I was recently in a car crash that totalled my two year old Avalon. The first offer from the insurance company was refused and I bargained for the settlement that I wanted.

It will also depend on if they will write off the entire boat. Since the hull is in good shape the boat can be repaired by replacing the engine and electronics. That may be less than the value of the boat.

Regardless of how the insurance company goes I am truly bummed by your experience. No injuries is good, the boat can be replaced or repaired and feel no pain.

It does make you sick looking at that and thinking about it. I was with a friend a couple of years ago on his 20V when he hit a rock (at Lake Pleasant). It added a gouge down the length of the boat, bent one fin, the shaft, strut and rudder, and other bottom damage. I can see he was lucky we were wake surfing at the time or it would have ended up like yours. That kept the front of the boat higher. His stern end and bottom damage was much worse, but no holes, so it didn't sink. In fact the rudder sheared off clean. Yours was a freak accident.

Fargin Icehole...I saw that movie, am still laughing.

I wonder why you couldn't go faster than 7 MPH. Maybe the water got up to the plugs too fast and was already causing mechanical issues? The water that got in was just too heavy?

About an hour after we were back at the shore, he claimed that the boat was abandoned and he was going to "salvage" it... The sheriffs caught him trying to tow it back to shore and tore him a new one... So much so that the his supervisor got called... He beached my boat and probably caused more damage than what I did to it...

Man I would have told the Sheriff I want to press charges for attempted theft. The Sheriff is obligated at that point to arrest them and press the charges. Some time the Sheriff will try and talk you out of it because they have to fill out a lot of paper work and crap for it but that is the job they choose to do. They are sworn in and agreed to do the job.

That would, to be lightly said, upset me in unknown ways.

WOW!!! Luckily nobody was hurt! I hope the insurance company isn't too hard to deal with. Please keep us updated.

For your sake I hope they total the boat and not just fix/replace things. I bet that boat will have problems that can't be fixed. You said it took about 30 min until it went under how long was it under before you got it back on the trailer?

Again, you'd be surprised how well they can fix up the boat. The electronics are obviously toast, but those are pretty easy to replace. The engine can definitely be restored if they do it quickly and I'll be the interior will dry out nicely if it's not been under water too long.

I am going to add 4 Tsunami pumps into my boat for this reason plus the bilge. I will put one in the bow and three in the back. This way I can nose the boat up and turn on the pumps to get the water out if it ever happens to me.

Now I am scared and know why I use my wave runners on a lake before I boat on it. I hit a rock last year in an area right next to the Dock. The STUPID rangers said SORRY! we forgot to move the markers back over. Bent my strut and through my engine out of alignment right after I had it all fixed in Utah. Man I was pissed. I guess I see this and say I should have felt blessed.

Hope it all works out for you.
It's part of boating you hit stuff. You run into this issue while taking the risk of doing things. Nothing in this world is risk free.

Sorry to hear about your boat LBX. I hope you get it fixed/replaced and very fast.

This is what I was wondering as well. seems like it sunk more then any other tige I have seen sink.

I have sense taken all of my lead out of my boat. Yeah i still have the batteries, but that's it. It's all water ballast now.

My guess would be weight. When ours took on a lot of water back in June, we couldn't go much faster than that either. The water probably filled the engine bay and lockers so that's probably a few thousand pounds right there!

Lesson learned here is.....if your boat starts taking on water, get to the closest shore immediately! Don't mess around with trying to get somewhere else - just get to a shore, beach it (if possible) and figure it out from there!
