Quick ipod question

OK so a few weeks ago we were out surfing and my wife had a brain fart and turned in to the surf wake after I fell and took a huge roller over the nose of the boat. Well her iopd was in the cup holder next to the golvebox and got soaked, and now wont work. It will turn on but soon after turn its self off.

My question is if I take it to the ipod store and the change out the battery what are my chances of it ever working properly?

Or am I SOL and need to get her a new one???

That's whay I bought an Otter Box. 6$ on Ebay is < $ than a new Ipod!!

Mine would have been too expensive to fix. New Ipod touch for me. My hard drive was still good but everything else was toast.

What kind of iPod was it? My son's went through the wash. It didn't work right away, so we left it alone. Once it dried out (after a couple of weeks) we plugged it in and it worked again. This was a nano. I do believe the the drive on the videos is hermetically sealed, so it's really just a matter of whether it was just running on its own battery or whether it's since been plugged into a power source for recharging. If it's the former, there's a pretty good chance that if you let it dry out, no further harm will come from it. Was it on at the time?

If you connected it for charging, all bets are off because that's when the shorts happen.

crack it open, dissassemble, disconnect battery. Then lay all out on a towel, and also use the blow dryer, let it completely dry, I have done that 2x with diff ipods, and they worked.

Yep....open er up, blow dry it off, reassemble and rock on. You would be suprised at the amount of electronics that can be recovered in this way.

It was the 4GB nano and it was not charging when it got wet but it was on.

ok so I'm pretty good at taking stuff apart and putting them back togather....so my question is how do you take apart the nano??

The thing is, when this happens, you have to turn them off immediately, and dry it out completely, before turning it on, and especially trying to charge it. When you try to charge, and it is wet inside, it is possible to short a circuit, and damage some component(s).

I'm sure thats what happened. I'm sure she tried to turn it on when it was still wet.

The nanos are fairly resilient since they are a flash type player verses a hard drive, it will probably work when you take it apart. As far as taking it apart:

also, if it is still on warranty, dry it out. Then put it back together CLEAN. I did this with one I dropped in a pool. Then filled out the service thing on apple website. They sent me a new one. I said it "Stopped working". I think it cost me 20 or something. Don't call, and don't go to genius bar or apple store. They ask too many questions. If you can't get it to work, try the site.
