    NADA
    Low retail - 21,000
    High or average - 24,000

If we paid 230 a month for 108 monthes, we would pay about $ 24/25,000

If we got it paid off we would end up around 17,000

BTW the stuffing box or what ever apperantly needs to be repacked, anybody have an idea how much that would cost to get fixed, say at a dealer, and if we did it our selves?

Right behind the motor cover there is a little trap door open it and its right there... you cant miss it.

That wax rope probably costs $10.
            EDIT: Somewhere from $15-$50

Also the "inboard seal" Where the prop shaft comes into the hull is leaking, Hard to fix? Costly job? Is it worth it?

              Your insight is appreciated.

I think that $21K is high for the condition that boat looks to be in. Also, what is that boat going to be worth after you pay on it for 9 more years. The current owner has already payed $16k + on a boat that IMO is worth not alot more then that.

So why would you pay $25k for a boat that will be worth $8-$10 in 9 yrs.

The waxy rope is all I'd have to replace correct?

Yes and then after its installed you have to set the drip right, the shaft is supposed to drip a certain number of times in a certain amount of time. I think that is explained in Spharis' tutorial

Its on the driveshaft, aslong as you know what the driveshaft is you will have no problem finding it.
Open up the hatch, you will see a big rod coming out of the engine and through the floor. At the floor there is the stuffing box. It has a couple nuts on it and inside there is the wax rope. These wear out and need to be replaced every now and then. Newer boats have the PSS packing which is dripless and maintnence free.

Mine does have a PSS, yes you can but it requires major disassembly of the driveshaft and an expensive part.

I know I took it off.

                          Here is a PSS....

I think 21 is high also, but he is not paying 25,000. He is really paying $17000 plus. The $25000 is only if they keep the loan to maturity.
If they were able to pay cash the payoff had to be around 17,000 but that was based on alot of assumptions such as interest rate and payments left.

If they bought for 17000 and financed lets say 13,600 for 10 years the payment would be 167/month based on 8.25%

Total payments including interest if they kept loan to maturity is $20,017
                              Let it be!!!

I'm glad your better at this than me, I can do it, it just takes me a little longer. I think we could swing it, and I would say we would have that boat for at least 8-10 years becuase can handle my skill level can handle were as my boat I can do about the best I can for the wake and stuff like that, and I would still be going though collage and whatnot while I am making boat payments, but I also think I would be able to pay it off early and save myself a few bucks in the long run.
