    Tige Service Manuals

Just joined this site and already I have a question. Where does one go to find owner/service manuals for the actual boat??? I own a 2001 21V, and really need info on the boat itself. In particular, I need the manufacturer and part number for the steering cable as well as a wiring harness schematic for the complete boat. Not just the engine, or the stereo, cruise, etc..., but for the actual boat. Lighting, jumper harness to engine, other components, etc... Once I have the cable, what steps need to be taken to change it, etc... Anyone who has worked on a car, knows there is an easy way to do a job (as described in the service manual), and the hack's way (just remove parts until you can finally get to the job at hand! I'd like to service my boat the easy way and the first thing I need to do is replace the steering cable. Thanks, Sam.

    Hi, Sam,
Welcome to the site. I just joined a few months ago and our boat is similar to yours. From what I can tell I'm sorry to say there are no manuals for our boats, other than the engine. The circuits aren't that hard to figure out if you've worked on cars before.

Teleflex makes replacement steering cables. You'll need to get the old cable out to measure it or get the length of it that's printed on the casing somewhere. Is your helm a rack or rotary? Our 2000 is a Morse rotary and the cable would be a Teleflex SSC52xx (xx = ft) or a Morse 304411-xxx (xxx = in). The rack numbers are different, similar format. There's a couple of current threads going about the cable.

Post your questions (pics help) - there are quite a few people on here with answers.

      Welcome to the tigeowners forum.

Do a search for help on steering cables, there are 2 threads I think going on right now. Teliflex will probably be the cable you need to get and the length should be found on the casing near the steering wheel end.

Good luck on finding a Repair Manual for the boat itself, I dont think anyone realy makes a good one.

Post some pics of your boat when you get a chance

Thanks guys! I was afraid of that. $40+K for a boat and you can't even get a basic manual! It's a rack style steering at the helm. It looks like it will be a b!tch to get the cable loose from under the engine. I love the V-drive anytime except when it comes time to work on something in the engine compartment. I'll try to drag up a pic. It's your basic 21V rider's edition. White with grey insets and decals.

So far, my only major complaints have been the gel coat (cracks, divots and, in general, poor quality. My Dad's 25 year old Sea Ray's still looks better!), the POS tower integrity (I've had two break, both replaced by Tige), and the speedo wheel for the perfect pass (I've had three quit working and now they no longer make the one I have! Their suggestion was to cut a bigger hole in the bottom to accommodate their new design!).

Did you get your boat new? I was wondering what our 2000 21V went for new.

Is your tower the same as this one? If it is where did it crack so I can watch out for that. Our boat has less than 100 hrs. What is a "POS" tower? Does anyone know what make our tower is if it's not the same as Sam's?

Are your stripes the same or did they change in 2001? I need to replace ours (rubbed against a dock) and this winter I'm going to make patterns for the all the decals (except the "wings") and cut my own.

Perfect Pass uses an Aimar speed/temp sensor ST300 and the "new design" is probably not Perfect Pass'. Airmar probably updated the old design. May be why you've gone thru 3 of them. Get 2 hole saws - one for the new hole and one for a plug for the old hole to keep the larger saw centered. I installed the Perfect Pass in ours before this summer and what a difference. There are various suppliers of the Airmar ST300 other than Perfect Pass. Here's the new sensor: http://www.airmar.com/pdfs/install/17_274-01_r02.pdf

Good luck with the steering cable. I dropped mine off at the dealer today so they could finish it. I got the old one out....a total PIA!!! I actually had to cut the old one out. The 1 1/8" nut that connects to the engin mount tube thing was frozen on and just kept spinning the tube in its holder. I could not for the life of me get the new cable to start feeding under the front of the tank and there was NO way to feed it up over the top of the tank. The service lady actually told me they usually end up cutting an access hole into the floor so they can lift the front of the tank up and feed the new cable through. Great. I think w/ the access hole I could do the next one but man, this was a nightmare. I am just going to start saving my money now so that I can afford to drop the boat off for the next one and let them do it start to finish.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

              LMAO!

They cannot document something they don't know about my friend!

Do a search here on the word "manual'.

"Badges? We don't gotta show you no ..."

I have been asking this very question, as have dozens of others!

                What is a "POS" tower?
"Piece of s**t" tower. Metcrap, I believe. What a piece of rattle-trap junk. This is the tower I would like to get when I have a few extra pennies.

Still haven't found any pics of the boat. Maybe I'll snap a couple today and post. Would like others opinion on what I call inferior gel coat. I do like the Tige boats, but their service after the sale leaves something to be desired. I suppose after dealing with "big" companies, I've gotten to where I expect more! As a powertrain engineer for GM, we constantly have the mantra "the customer always comes first, and he's ALWAYS right" beaten into our little pea-brains. It's really too bad, as Tige really does make some fine looking boats and the amenities are excellent. Just be nice if they focused on the core elements of boat building before the bells and whistles.

For example, I took my boat in after a year of owning it and complained about the cracks in the gel coat. They replied that it wasn't covered since I used it for wakeboarding! Wait a minute, doesn't it say official wakeboard towboat on the back??? Also, I can understand a few small cracks around the tower mounts, but in the floorboards? Regardless, it is what it is. Think I'll go out and board/skate a little today, have a cold beer and forget it all for a few!

Last, I don't know who Dom is in the referenced post, but last time I checked, I didn't need any "training/special tools" to read a wiring diagram. They didn't even document which circuits went on which fuse block! I guess you just turn everything on, pull one fuse at a time and see what quits working. Morons! As it turns out, some of us, I'm sure, could probably learn to read and at least have a clue. As to Dom's second point about not wanting the ignorant masses to work on their on their boat and potentially cause more warranty issues.... What about all of us who purchased their product and actually expected to keep past the warranty period??? I don't know about y'all, but I certainly can't afford to buy a new boat every time the warranty runs out. One would think the boys at Tige would eventually get it through their thick skulls that some who spend tens of thousands on their product expect a little more.

Sambo, you stated that you are a "As a powertrain engineer for GM" , well, I spent 9 yrs in a GM service dept. (18 yrs total in the biz) and never once did any new car ever come with the 4 volume set of repair manuals. If this has changed in the last 2 years, then I stand corrected, but why do EXPECT one from Tige. Did the flat screen you bought for xmas come with a complete repair manual? Dryer?, Microwave? People make a living providing a service for consumer products such as these, for people who don't want to, or don't have the technical knowledge to do the repairs themselves

No offence to anyone, but not every boat owner is an ASE cert. technician just like most car owners are not. Many car owners, that don't know the first thing about cars or don't want to, keep there cars long after the warranty expires just like boat owners.

How do you think all the GM dealers would feel if the customers did all their repairs themselves, we all know service pays the bills, sales makes the owner's pocket fat.

Sambo, I'm not posting this to start a pissing contest, but I think that all this negative posting/ Tige bashing is not going to get any body's boat fixed. I had issues from the beginning on my Tige. I had the worst dealer you could imagine when it came to service after the sale and Tige pulled their franchise 4 months after I bought. Instead of taking the negative approach and bash Tige on a public forum (not saying your are) I went to the area Rep, got hooked up with another dealer (3 hour drive from me) Nd with Tige and the new dealer, we got everything worked out to my satisfaction. And because of that, I WILL buy another Tige.

It seems that Wake is going out of his way to not get his boat fixed My advice, SELL IT and end your misery. I'm sorry Wakes boat is not performing correctly, but it's not the end of the world. Tige and MP can fix this problem and I believe they will. Just need a chance, or two, or three. If someone is not happy with what your dealer is telling you, go to the next level for a second opinion. It is as simple as that.

Nice boat Sambo, welcome to the forum There are a lot of happy Tige owners on here, and some not so happy, but that's what makes this forum so good. We are allowed to post our issues here with out fear of the manufacturer making them disappear.

Absolutely true. But they ARE available for purchase and they do, in fact, exist. My point isn't that they did not come with the boat. My point is that they simply are not available for any price. Whether one choses to do his on work or use a dealer, is a personal choice. It would just be nice if Tige could supply me with a manual should I so desire.

Thanks, all in all, I'm quite happy. As a DIY'er there's just a few things I wish could be different.

Im DOM , I agree that a manual would be a good thing esspecialy if you had to take your boat to a service facility that didnt have your particular brand, but for the average person who has had no training and even if they can read real well , they can cause more problems than fix. With the proper manuals are they going to purchase any special tools that might be required.Ten years back every boat company provided manuals of some sort to allow you to do work on your boat , but today with gauges that are computor controlled , drive by wire engines , cruise control , there is not allot that the average person can do, and as I said they can cause more damage and cost, most think you can use a test light to test computor circuts , which if you do will damage the ecm, and on and on. So I dont see where its such a big deal.

I paid $55k for my 21v in 1999. I had every option except the tower, heater and shower. Instead of the tower, I got the telescopic pylon (which was almost as much as the tower). I have 2 friends with '02 Riders editions same as sambo's, one has the Metcraft tower like his and the other as a different looking tower. The one with the Metcraft appears to have the cracking issues. I have a Monster tower. I think part of the problem is that every tower flexes a bit and since the Metcraft has straight tubing right to the mount, the first point the tower can relieve the pressure is where it's mounted to the topdeck, hence the gelcoat issues. Lots of boats using that type of tower design have had gelcoat issues. My Monster tower has a heim joint that allows it to relieve this pressure, so I've had no issues since adding the tower 2 years ago. We've put over 300 hours on the boat since then, so it gets used quite a bit.

You'll notice the newer towers have supports that are separate from the tower tubing and so they won't have that issues any more.
