What octane does everyone run?

In california, and maybe other places, they don't raise the octane, like they did in the old days of "Premium Leaded". They oxygenate the gas, to give it a higher octane. So, it actually will make your car/boat run LEANER than it should, using a higher octane fuel, which is not as good for it.http://wake9.com/

I originally used 89 Octane, than about a year ago, there was a thread about octane and I switched to the 87 octane. I started having some fuel problems. I since switched back to 89. They are probably just coincidence.
The question I wonder is, since higher octane has a slower burn rate, do you think it would be less susceptible to vapor lock?Mike Allen, Tigé owner since 1997
