Cheapest gas...definitely! Paid $2.79 a gallon on land on the way to Bass Lake a few weeks ago...paid $4.79 a gallon at the marina there...e...GADS!

Don't get me started on marina gas........

In california, and maybe other places, they don't raise the octane, like they did in the old days of "Premium Leaded". They oxygenate the gas, to give it a higher octane. So, it actually will make your car/boat run LEANER than it should, using a higher octane fuel, which is not as good for it.

92, except at Crescent Bar, where I can only get 87 on the river

MP 340 ... 87 in the boat. 250HP Jet ski needs 93 or it pings.

I originally used 89 Octane, than about a year ago, there was a thread about octane and I switched to the 87 octane. I started having some fuel problems. I since switched back to 89. They are probably just coincidence.

The question I wonder is, since higher octane has a slower burn rate, do you think it would be less susceptible to vapor lock?

Many times if you are getting vapor lock in your engine with fuel injection you have way more issues than you think. Vapor lock generally came from the old carburetor days. On todays engines you do not rely on a ventricle force to pull in the gas to the engine. It is put in by pressure from a pump through the injectors. Thus eliminating vapor lock by 99%. If you get vapor lock or what seems to be vapor lock there is a very high chance that you have carbon build up on your valves and slug build up in the intake runners. This is a common problem on boats because they generally to not run over 200 degrees like todays cars do. Get a good Moto-Vac cleaner for the intake called MV4 it is the only safe cleaner for the plastic intake and it is not combustible because it is a detergent base and it continue to work and clean your intake runners for about ten minutes of running time. The other item you may want to have done is an engine de-carbonizing. There is several different methods out there that can be done to accomplish that. And last but not least have the injector cleaning done at the end of every season as part of the winterization.

I would definitely say, that it is more important to use Quality Gas, like Chevron with Techron, or 76, that won't leave additives or gum up injectors like ARCO or other cheap gases will. Use Quality GAS and 87 is what I always do.

I find a lot of the marinas only carry premium and 89. I don't see much 87 on the water. Maybe an attempt to justify the prices they charge.
